I stare at myself in the full body length mirror as I do a little twirl trying to see the fit of my dress on me.
Tonight is finally the night where we close the last chapter of our lives and move on to the next one.
It's prom and also the last night of myself being a high school student.
After answering all our finals, tonight we would finally have a break.
I spent a huge amount of time getting ready- by myself may I add, how sad is that- despite having no date for tonight. I know no one expected me to dress up and look great tonight but it's the last night of enjoying high school, no one can stop me from having fun.
I'm wearing the gold glittery gown I bought with Britney, Andy and Ashley. Oh how this dress brought me so much memories.
My hair is down and curled loosely at the end. However my hair at the sides of my face are pinned back giving me a casual, but elegant hairdo.
My makeup is very light considering my dress says boom boom boom. I placed a little concealer hiding some of my blemishes. Some eye makeup such as mascara and eyeliner, and finally I place my favorite lipgloss on from MAC that made my lips look natural yet irresistible.
I couldn't find any high heels that would match my dress so I just borrowed my mom's black high heels that gave me height which I love, making me now 5'10 instead of 5'8. I knew my shoes didn't really match but the length of my dress covered my feet so that was great.
I borrowed a white plain clutch from my mom before throwing in my essentials such as my phone, keys, and some of my make up just for retouching.
I gave myself one last look in the mirror just to see the final look. I nodded in assent before stepping out of my room and walking down the stairs.
"Mom!" I called up from the bottom of the stairs hoping she'd hear me from her room. "I'm going to prom tonight! Don't expect me to come home late since I don't have any plans after! There's some leftover lasagna in the refrigerator. Just heat that up for you dinner-"
"Katie."
I jumped in surprise when I saw my mom sitting on the couch in the sala.
"You were here all this time?" I asked.
She nodded before looking at me disappointingly.
"Shit." I cursed. "Whatever you think I did, I didn't do it."
She held up a bunch of envelopes from colleges and raised her eyebrow at me.
"Oh." I say. "That."
"I saw these on your desk." She says. "Why didn't you show these to me? You got accepted in everything you applied to. Not to mention the full scholarship from NYU. And you didn't even bother telling me? I'm your mom Katie."
I bit my lip nervously. "I was going to tell you it's just that I didn't want to make you even more stressed."
She frowns at me in confusion. "Why would I be stressed? My daughter who I love dearly got into the best schools."
"Because if I told you about these, you'd have to worry about paying for my college tuition." I say.
She chuckles. "Sweetie, no matter how much it would stress me out, I wouldn't care at all as long as my daughter gets what she wants and she's happy about it."
I smile at her. "Thanks mom."
She nods. "Now next time something big happens to you, you have to tell me or else I will kick your ass."
