☾ CHAPTER ONE

"Up! Get up!" Aunt Petunia's shrill voice rang out as she knocked on the door to the cupboard under the stairs. "Now!" She smacked the door before walking away.

Harry's eyes fluttered open and he rubbed them as he sat up. He reached up and pulled a chord to turn the light on. His sister, Athena, was attempting to fall back asleep at the other end of their small shared bed. Harry nudged her with his foot and she groaned as she woke up. "We can't be late getting up again." Harry whispered as he picked his glasses up. The bridge had been taped up, they had been broken a while ago and neither Petunia or Vernon would pay to have them repaired.

thud, thud, thud, thud

The sound of their cousin, Dudley, stomping down the stairs. The twins could hear him reach the bottom of the stairs, but then he stopped and ran back up them to be directly above his cousin's bedroom. He jumped up and down. "Wake up, cousins! We're going to the zoo!" He yelled.

"I wanna punch him so badly." Athena whispered.

"You went without food for two days last time you did that." Harry whispered back.

The two of them quickly got changed into their second hand clothes. Harry always wore whatever Dudley didn't want or outgrew; and Athena had whatever was cheapest from the charity shop in town. Most of the time the clothes were too big on her, but she wouldn't dare to speak up about it. Last time did, Vernon had threatened to burn the lot.

As Harry opened the bedroom door and went to step out, Dudley came racing past and pushed his cousin back into the room; which sent him flying into Athena and the two of them fell down. Dudley ran away laughing as Athena balled her small fist up in anger, but Harry quickly calmed her down.

They left their room, if you could even call it that, and made their way out to the kitchen where Petunia made a fuss over her precious baby boy. "Here he comes, the birthday boy!" She beamed.

"Happy birthday, son." Vernon grinned.

As soon as Petunia set her eyes on the twins, an unpleasant look appeared on her face. "Why don't you two just cook the breakfast, and try not to burn anything." She said

"Yes, Aunt Petunia." Harry and Athena said in unison, before they made their way further into the kitchen. Harry made a start on the bacon and eggs, while Athena took care of the coffee.
