BANG!

James saw Lily was clutching her wand really tightly. He wanted to ask her, has she made this desk explode?
Everyone was surrounding them and soon enough Professor rushed to their side as well.

"Who's idea it was to explode the desk? Do you know what happens to students who try to damage school property?" James knew the teacher was exaggerating the issue, the wood splinters were here, a simple Repairo could fix the desk.

After a minute of silence followed, "Now who has done this?" Merryweather raised his voice. James did Know that Lily Evans did not like breaking rules and one more detention isn't going to affect him so,

"It was me." He and Lily said at the same time. They both looked at each other, Lily looked irritated.

"Oh, so both you are going to take responsibility? Very well then. Detention every Monday until your holidays."

Merryweather repaired the desk and dismissed the class. He barely had time to get out and seek her and ask questions but he never had to as a whirlwind of red hair almost smacked in his face.

She turned around to face him, "You!"

"What have I done?"

"Got me in detention. Why didn't you accept it sooner?" He was flabbergasted, what was she talking about? He saw from the corner of his eyes his friends and Mary and Marlene approach them but he paid them no mind.

"Why should I? You were the one who exploded that bench. Besides I tried to take the fall."

"No I didn't. You were the one who transfigured that bench into a puppet to mimic me, so I thought you were the one who exploded it." She still looked angry but she was calming down. Atleast she wasn't the one who was behind it, he sighed in relief. He thought he had taken the joke too far, but she was more amused than annoyed by that puppet.

"No I wasn't either. Look you can perform priori incantatem on my wand." He held his wand infront of her.

She shook her head, "No, it isn't necessary." She took a deep breath, he did too. "Who could that person be then? Your friends?"

"Yeah because we have nothing else to do." Padfoot who had now caught up with them, said.

"He didn't do it, I was there. He was busy laughing on the floor." Marlenes said giving a smug look to Sirus.

"Can you give that memory to me?" Remus snickered.

"You have pensieve?" Mary awed.

Remus shook his head, "But I would like to own one in future."

"What are we even talking about at this point? Memories, Pensieve. I want to figure out who was behind it."  Lily said loudly over them, clearly exasperated.

But for James the answer was clear. It was one of the Slytherins most likely Snape. While he wouldn't want to land Lily on a detention, he would gladly sacrifice that want to make him look bad in front of Lily.

"It must be one of the Slytherins." He said, carefully not mentioning her best friend? Former best friend? He wasn't sure what they were now. He looked at Padfoot who nodded at him. They both were at the same conclusion, it must be Snape. Besides, Muliciber and Avery didn't have the balls to intevene in front of a teacher.

But Lily did not accept their conclusion, "Yeah everything bad happens, it's because of Slytherins right?"

"Yes." Padfoot answered before he can open his mouth.

Lily didn't acknowledge him with a reply. She glared at him, as if he was at fault and stalked away. Mary and Marlene followed her.

Like a mutually agreed agreement they started walking towards the Gryffindor common room. All of them had free period, none of them had opted for Divination.
"Snivellous. That jealous piece of slimey git. Couldn't tolerate you partnered with Evans." Sirius bristled.
