'Good times'
I sat on my knees infront of the holy text, in the Gurudwara next to the hospital with my hands joined. These hands had taken the lives of soo many. These hands had killed entire families and lineages in a matter of a day or two.
These hands pulled the trigger and watched the hope evaporate out of the eyes of their loved ones, to be replaced by despair.
I didn't feel worthy enough, to be sitting here nor was I ever trained to ask for something, or even beg for it.
I was taught to take everything I wanted.
I had always kept my head high because I thought myself superior. I never killed someone for something minute or minor unlike other's in my trade.
Taking someone's life was punishment for someone who cost me something more than money could buy.
Like my mother.
I sat with joined hands, begging desperately for the woman who I thought was my only hope for redemption.
She didn't even know how much I had changed to be with her. I had altered my mere existence to be capable enough to be around her. I made myself better, to be able to deserve her company.
I was distracted by the ringing of my phone, as I quickly reached for it hoping to be Dianne with the news of Raavi. I exited the peaceful building to look at my screen.
It was my mother-in-law.
"He.. Hello. Mom..." I say my voice choking.
"Richard picked us up and told us everything. We are in the hospital. Where are you child?" She says in a heavy voice, as I get up from my knees and wipe my tears.
I had told Richard to get her family here and inform them.
"I'll be with you in a minute." I said, and bowed my head on the doorstep before I turned to go back out.
I was an athiest like my father, we thought religion was for the weak. Until Raavi came along and taught me how religion is something that teaches us hope and faith in the face of despair. No matter which it was.
I walk towards the hospital, take the path and down the corridor turning a corner towards the elevator that lead me to the VIP wing.
I entered to see Tejpartap sitting with his mom, consoling her.
"Is... Is she okay? What's the update?" I ask them as Tejpartap looks down.
"She... The amniotic band... Her heart... She's in coma. They don't know if... If she will wake up." He says, as I take a step forward and hold his collars.
"When... Not if... They don't know when she will wake up. Because she will wake up, you hear me?" I shouted as I was pulled back and smashed into the wall.
"He wasn't the one who left her alone for office work. You did." Tejas, her elder brother had appeared out of nowhere and held me to the wall. "Where were you when my sister fainted? How dare you blame him? You knew the pregnancy was high risk? Didn't you? And you still went ahead? She's not your bloody incubator. You..." He says his finger jabbing in my chest. "You are responsible for what happened." He says, as his mother gets up and gets inbetween us.
