A year later, it was finally the big day. I was sitting in my chair wearing a luscious white, silk robe, getting my hair and makeup done. The door suddenly opened and my mom walked in.

"Hey mamma, is everything ready?" I asked.

"Just about baby girl. Your uncle Cardo stepped out to pick up your wedding bands, your brother is helping adjust the final touches of decor and your father and future mother-in-law is welcoming guests." She said as she smiled.

We were startled by the door bursting open. My eyes widened.

"AVERY?!" I squealed with surprise. My parents had mentioned to me that while I was missing for the 3 years, they couldn't lie to Avery and told her what had happened. What surprised them even more was that Avery knew just about everything my family does, but she never mentioned any of it to anyone and would take it to her grave. My parents really honoured her for that.

"Hey boo! You know I couldn't miss this wedding." She said.

I got up out the chair and gave her the biggest hug. My mom stood there laughing.

"I thought you weren't coming back from vacation for another 3 days?" I asked.

"I know doll, but Mateo sent a plane over for me just so I can be here with you." She said.

This man surprises me more and more everyday.

"But anyways babe, I'll catch you on the other side, your brother is calling." She continued before leaving in a hurry.

"Carlos?—" I said surprised. I looked at my mom and she laughed. I swear, Avery needs to tell me details when this is all over.

My mom brought my dress bag from the closet.  "You ready Mia?" She asked. I turned around and faced the mirror. Swiping down the silk robe on my waist. I was taking in how far Mateo and I have come. Now I'm about to be married to the love of my life. It was really something. My eyes trailed towards the scar on my arm. I frowned and touched it gently. The tears started to well in my eyes.

"I know it sucks seeing that scar everyday, but just think of it as your battle scar baby girl. It means that you're a survivor and that should give you strength to carry on with life. You're stronger than you think and I know this." She said as she hugged me from behind. I smiled through the teary eyes and took a deep breath.
