My eyes flitted open and I gasped for air. All I smelled was smoke and ash. I tried to remember what had happened just now. Why was I here? ...Then, the image of the Sustainer popped into my mind.
"Lumine!" Aether yelled, his hand raised towards me, his expression filled with shock.
I looked back at my brother, the Sustainer's cubes slowly engulfing me. My last look before I was sealed away was the Sustainer looking back at me with indifference.
I sat up, my hand raised to my head. My heartbeat quickened. My brother. What happened to him? Where is he now? What did the Sustainer do to him? A thousand questions flooded my mind.
I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself. I had to focus on what was happening right now before I could panic. For all I know, the Sustainer could've plopped me into the middle of a battlefield. So I focused on my breathing and I took deep, steady breaths. Once I calmed down, I opened my eyes, only to be met with a burning village.
My eyes widened. I looked around and saw even more burning houses and collapsed buildings. I saw my sword to my right and I grabbed it. I rushed towards one of the houses but there was nothing inside other than flames and ash. What had happened to this village?
Then, I heard a little girl scream. My head whipped towards the direction of the scream and I ran there immediately. I slammed the door open and saw a little girl kneeling on the floor, sobbing. My eyes widened at the sight next to her. A dead middle-aged woman, lying in a heap of debris and burnt planks. I stood there in shock for a second before focusing on the girl in front of me.
"Hey, come with me, it's not safe here." I approached the girl and laid a gentle hand on her shoulder.
"No! I can't leave mommy!" The girl cried.
"She'll be fine. I'll get her to safety." I lied, knowing the woman is already dead.
At these words, the girl relaxed slightly, but still sobbing. I took her in my arms and bolted out the door. I ran until the village couldn't be seen anymore. I placed the girl next to a tree.
"Don't move anywhere, I'll be right back." I whispered to the girl gently before running back towards the village. On and on I ran until I found the burning village. I saw a figure in the distance, but blurred because of the smoke. I ran towards the figure.
"Come with me, it's not safe here!" I yelled out, unsure if my voice reached him.
The figure turned around and I observed that the figure was a man. He looked oddly familiar... And when I got past the clouds of smoke and ash, I faltered in my steps before stopping to a halt. He had blonde, straight hair and Khaenria'hn eyes. He had a blue-black outfit and a half-mask colored blue with a hue of black. It felt like I had seen him before... But where?
"...I see your here as well." He said.
"Follow me, I know the way to safety." I gestured for him to follow me before running into the woods. Our footsteps echoed throughout the forest, each other step accompanied with a crunch!
I found the location where I left the little girl. Her head was buried into her knees, not making a sound. But when I approached, her head whipped up.
"Is mommy okay?" She asked.
"Yes, she is. I just have to bring her back." I lied.
I heard the man behind me shift a bit. He probably figured I was lying, but thankfully, he made no comment on it.
"What's your name?" I asked the girl.
"...Alice." She replied.
"Alice... That's a nice name." I smiled before turning towards the man.
He seemed to have predicted what I would say. "My name's Dainsleif. It's nice to meet you." He said.
"Dainsleif, huh?" I said. "I'm Lumine."
Dainsleif crossed his arms and nodded.
"Hey, do you know anyone that looks like me? Blonde hair, black clothes, exposed stomach, braided? He's my brother." I said.
Dainsleif shook his head. "Sorry, but I've never seen anyone like that."
I looked down. Of course he wouldn't. Why did I expect him to know?
"I understand." I said.
Dainsleif looked at me. He stared, seemingly trying to decide on something.
"...I can... Help you find your sibling." He offered.
"Sorry, but I'd rather go on my own." I rejected his offer. "Thank you though. And can you get Alice to safety for me?"
Dainsleif nodded. "Yes, of course." He then picked up Alice and nodded at me. "Take care, then." And he disaapeared into the forest.
I stood there, staring at the direction he ran in until I was sure he finally disaapeared before making my way forward. I had to find my brother. If anything... The Archons would surely know. So, I found a cliff to try and sight a nearby city. Lo and behold, Mondstadt came into view in the distance. I smiled in relief before making my way towards the City of Freedom.
AN: Hello! Thx for reading my first chapter in this story. This is my first fanfiction in Wattpad (first story actually haha) so it'll take some time to get used to. Anyway, I am very inconsistent in my chapter uploading so one time, it might take just one day until the next chapter is uploaded up to literal months until the next chapter is published. Hope you had fun reading though!
