Hello friends...

I am back with a one-shot story of our dearest Samaina...

I had written this story for my LIC Hindi Magazine with different character names which will be published in Hindi by next month...
Though I had written this one-shot imagining our very own Samaina, I thought to publish it here in the Hinglish version for all of you...

Do read and vote if you like the story...

INTEZAAR...

Standing at my cabin's window at midnight, I watched the sky which was full of darkness, just like my heart. The moment I closed my eyes, the flashes of all that happened ten years back came rushing swiftly. The memories were too raw and painful to bear even now.

"Dr. Naina?" I heard a familiar nurse's voice, "Yes Seema... Kya hua?" She paused for a second observing my face, "Emergency hai. Ek accident case aaya hai aur wohh patient behoshi ki haalat mein bhi aapka naam baar baar le raha hai, shaayad wohh aapko jaanta hai Dr. Naina."

The patient knows me? I grew curious. Being a doctor, I was always on my toes to treat the patients, so I couldn't deny. Though I was tired as hell, I couldn't leave any patient unattended.

I don't know why but I was feeling a little anxious today as if something bad was going to happen. And who was this patient who was calling my name in his unconscious state.

As I walked towards the emergency room, I saw some familiar faces and I halted in my tracks. Was this the same person, I had been thinking about earlier? This can't be happening. No... no... he can't be here.

"Naina... please Sameer ko bachaa lo. Uska... uska accident ho gaya hai.", Pandit, my once upon a college friend pleaded. I looked past him and watched his parents and his sister looking at me with the same pleading look. Giving him a nod and controlling my own emotions, I rushed inside the emergency room.

The moment I saw Sameer, I froze. After ten long years, I was seeing Sameer, that too on a hospital bed. The nurse rushed towards me, "Dr Naina... Patient ka pulse kamm ho raha. Bohot khoon bhi beh chuka hai."

That brought me out of my stupor and I started checking on him. My hands shivered for the very first time as I touched him. I couldn't believe that we would come face to face in a such a situation where I would've to see him on a hospital bed, fighting for his life.

"Seema... Jaldi se Dr. Mehta ko bulao. Patient ki haalat ekdum critical ho rahi hai.", I ordered the nurse. "Maine unn tak message pohoncha diya hai. Wohh abhi aate hi honge." As she finished, Dr Mehta entered the room hurriedly. He too examined his wounds and looked at me. "Dr Naina... hume jaldi se inke tests karaane honge. Sar par bhi bohot gehri chot lagi hai aur bohot khoon bhi beh chuka hai. We need to check if he has some internal injuries too."

I nodded and soon he was taken away. As I left from the emergency room, Pandit came rushing to me and held my hand, "Naina... Sameer thik hai naa?" I repeated what Dr Mehta too had told them. He pleaded again, "Kuch bhi karo Naina, par please Sameer ko bachaa lo. Jo dus saal pehle hua tha, please uske liye usse maaf kar dena. Wohh aaj tak tumhe bhula nahi paaya hai Naina. Usse uski galti ka ehsaas hai. Tum please usse uski sazaa abhi mat dena."

Withdrawing from his hold, I interrupted, "Mr Pandit Mittal... I am a doctor here and I know my duties and responsibilities. My past has nothing to do with my patient. And for me he is just my patient. So, I request you not to bring up my past here." Saying that, I left towards the ICU where he was being treated.
