A New Friend

(FINN'S POINT OF VIEW)
---

It was a sunny day, and my owner had just taken me to the park. I love parks! The trees, the fountains, the fresh air. The number of new friends you can find can be... a lot! But, in some cases, they can also be very, very few or none at all. I was alone, looking at the trees, while my owner stood in front of me. Suddenly, I felt strange. As soon as my owner realized, he brought me back home.

My owner, Nova, isn’t the best at taking care of any kind of animal who is feeling... unwell, ill, sick. I knew for sure I wasn’t sick! I tried to tell him, but he didn't listen.

He then decided to bring me to the veterinarian. The fact is, after that, Nova looked at me and said, "You need to find yourself a lover."

I never had a lover before. I never even thought about having one, and even the thought of being told to find one frightens me.

As days passed, I found myself trying to understand why I should find a lover. Since Nova wouldn’t tell me, no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't find a reason. Suddenly, I remembered that visit. Maybe that visit has something to do with having to find a lover, I thought to myself.

After a while, around 6:00 PM, someone knocked at the door.

"Coming!" Nova yelled as he ran towards the door.

"Who is it?" I asked.

"A new friend! Don’t worry, I promise he's not gonna replace you!" Nova said as he opened the door.

The door was now wide open. Nova was yelling, but he wasn't angry. In fact, he was happy. I, on the other hand, was shocked. I was looking at the new friend, a catboy with blue eyes that shone like diamonds, his stare ice-cold. He was as tall as me, his ears and tail black with their tips snow white. As for what he was wearing, he had a tight black sweater and a pair of dark grey cargo pants with a black belt.

"Finn, are you listening to me?" Nova asked, bringing me back to reality while snapping his fingers. I nodded.

"Good, this is Koda, a catboy," Nova told me, pointing at the catboy while sounding happier than I was.

I knew why my owner brought him here. Nova knows I don’t have many friends, so he brought one himself. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of having new friends! And Koda does look pretty cool. I can't help but feel a bit betrayed. Did we really get to the point of my owner paying someone for me to have a friend? You know what? Who cares! It was worth it. At least now I have a best friend: Koda.
