Ekansh POV
I stood outside the intensive care unit as my little girl was hooked to machines by pipes and tubes. She seemed fragile under the lights, like the Japanese dolls she had loved.
"Those are a masterpiece of pottery, not for playing Raavi." I had said when she was just 5 years old.
"But dad why did you get them, if they were not for playing." She had said with her scrunched up nose and furrowed brows, the little copy of her mom.
"Because I went to Japan for a diplomatic alliance and they are a very precious gift. The golden work you see is actually pure gold weaved into clay." I had said, picking her up and placing her on my lap while the help took the doll set away to place it as a show piece in the visitor's gallery.
"They are fragile, and we don't want to break them""But you broke my heart, papa." She had said, placing her hand on the right side. I take it placing on the left, almost center.
"This is where your heart is, bubba." I had said.
"And you broke it." She had said stomping her little angry feet as I laughed. I had picked her up to take her to her favorite icecream place and the memories faded giving way to The Present.
"Ekansh." Daman stood by my side as I wiped my eyes and looked at her. "Go eat something. It's been five days and you've barely had anything. You need to be strong for her."
"I... I hope I'm not too late, Daman." I say, as Tejas exits the elevator.
"Dad, Alexander is here." He says, as I nod not moving an inch. Since I arrived in America, Tejas had told me how Alexander had said in a fit of rage that he didn't want me around her wife, but when I entered his men had stood and watched not stopping me.
We understood that Alexander didn't mean it, but I made a point to not meet him. I would exit before he arrived so as to not let the awkward conversation ensue. I wanted this to wait until Raavi was okay, but it had been five days since I was here and six days since the surgery but there was no change in her condition, better or worse.
"I need to stop running and face him." I say as Tejas wanted to say something but then nodded.
Tejpartap was Raavi's twin and taken the most hit. They shared what they called a twin flame.
They weren't close when it came to communication, but they never had to share. They felt it deep in their soul when the other one was hurting. It's been two months since Hercules passed away and the twins were shattered.
Raavi took the brunt of it since she couldn't air travel, even if somehow I had allowed her to step foot in my house.
But I didn't. Tejpartap had felt her pain in that time as well, grieving for her.
I let my ego stand in the way of my daughter's happiness once and then instead of taking a step back, I continued to do so.
Alexander turned the corner of the corridor to walk towards me as I looked at Tejas and nodded for him to leave us alone.
He took Daman along, after she gave me a stern 'please don't mess it up, more' look. pleadingly and left.
"Mr. Sandhu." Alexander said formally, as if he didn't call my wife 'mom'. He expected me to step aside so he could be with his wife, but I stood in the way.
