KAIDENCE
December 27, 2023

"Damn, why you didn't just tell me, bro? I would've been the first to believe you," Said Calvin, rubbing his temples in stress as he sat across from Kaiden at the black picnic table of the spacious and green park.

"It wasn't a matter of who would believe me or not, it was a matter of shame, pain, and emasculation," Says Kaidence, failing to notice his actions of picking at his cuticles till they turned red and sore as his arms rested on the cold table in front of him.

"You right," Calvin nodded.

"I just wish that I could've been there for you," He looked down, sucking up the tears that threatened to expose his heartfelt emotions for his best friend.

"You was there by allowing me my space," Kaidence said, continuing to look to his left, observing the lightly occupied playground.

After Zurichi told him about Calvin's text message, he couldn't lie and say that he wasn't shocked. Calvin had been trying to contact him since their last encounter, but he'd changed his number and Calvin didn't know his address, so that complicated their miscommunication even more.

However, though it took Kaiden a day or two to think it over, he personally reached out to Calvin on his cell and they planned their reunion from there.

Kaidence felt a sense of relief to know that Calvin was sincere and understanding when it came to his tragic confessions.

Even though Calvin had no reputation of hurting their friendship, Kaiden still struggled to open up to his best friend about his trauma and instead closed himself off to him and others that he once held close.

"Have you told anyone else?" He finally lifted his head to look over at Kai whose attention shortly shifted to him.

Kaidence shook his head.
"No one other than you and my babygirl," He said, beginning to softly caress his wounded cuticles.

"Oh yeah," a small smile crept on Calvin's countenance. "Girlfriend?" He said more as a question than statement.

Kaidence found himself smiling at the mental image of Zurichi. "Yeah,"

It's clear that he misses her. He wishes to apologize to her again for how he caused their most recent moment to play out, but she'd already reassured him that he's forgiven.

"When did this happen? I remember you being anti-romance," Calvin couldn't help but remind his friend about his past feelings on relationships before their five months disconnection.

"Things change," Kaidence shrugged.

"She treating you good?" He asked, but Kai only raised his eyebrows in confusion.

"How did you get her Instagram to text her? How'd you know that she's my girl?" He unapologetically, aggressively questioned in a soft tone.

Calvin was taken aback. He had no ill intentions, he honestly just wanted to knowledge what his best friend had been up to during their five months departure.

"A photo that she posted of y'all popped up on my suggested Instagram timeline, and you weren't getting back with me, Ian know your address nor your family numbers, so I was desperate and dm'd her," Calvin calmly explained while playing with the zipper on his black puffer coat.

Kaidence showed no signs of interpretation as he stared at the pale man with auburn hair and thick brows that positioned on the other end of the table in front of him.

"We still best friends?" Calvin went on to ask, desperately hoping that the answer would be yes.

After a moment of silence on Kaiden's end. "Only if you wouldn't consider our time apart a temporary end of our friendship,"
