Layla POV
It was the third day of our internship and so far everything was going ok. I had finally convinced Deku to read me the book Gran Torino had given me since Violet refused to, Violet hadn't hurt herself once.
Wait, no, she accidentally put her hand between the wall and a chair she was sitting on and lent back and jarred her fingers.
But she's fine.I was currently training my quirk, trying to figure out how to activate that smoke I used on Todoroki at the sports festival. But so far, it wasn't going very well.
I sighed and grabbed the dark book Gran Torino gave me and flicked to one of the pages that was about smoke quirks and what some can do.
One in particular caught my eye though...
"Quirk- Hallucinogenic Smoke
This smoke is released from the body and anyone who inhales the smoke directly will experience hallucinations. The hallucinations can vary from being small and short lasting, to sever and can last for life, in the worst case scenario. It all depends on the user, their health, strength, determination, how strong their emotions are and/or what situation their in.Very few have been reported to have this type of quirk, and even less have the capability, skill and patience to control it properly. -The American Institute of Quirks"
'Of course it's from America.' I thought to myself and chuckled. I read through it once or twice more before thinking about what I heard Todoroki talking to himself about after the sports festival.
"I wonder what it was that I saw. Multiple versions? It could mean so many things"
It had to mean that he had seen something when I had released that smoke. Different versions had left me for a loop for many days though, everytime it came to mind I would push it aside and play it off as just me overthinking.
What if it was-
My thoughts were cut short when I heard Violet and Midoriya absolutely loosing their minds over something that was in Violet's book.
I looked up to see, Deku mumbling something and pacing around, and Violet holding her head in her hands and staring at a page with a face of shock.
After watching and listening to them for a minute or two, u decided to get up and see what was wrong.
"What the hell is wrong with you both?" I asked. Deku looked at me for a minute and pointed to one of the passages, that Violet was apparently gobsmacked at.
"Ok, what could a book say to make you both loose your minds over?" I leant down and read a small passage of the book.
And when I tell you I was completely taken aback.
"Quirk- Light objects and animals
People who have this quirk are not only very powerful, but also very unlucky.
The individual who has this quirk is more likely to have suffered some form of heart break or loss, that has caused them to be able to create specifically, animals and objects out of light.""So now a god-damn book is telling me I'm depressed and lonely! First Layla, then my doctor, now a book? I'm done." I stood there for a moment as Violet got up and walked away somewhere and just started at the book. I reread the paragraph a few times and blinked until I snickered.
"Since when have you been heartbroken?" I called from across the living area/dining room. She shrugged her shoulders in disbelief.
"THAT'S MY QUESTION!" She retorted and I shook my head. Then I remembered year 7 and looked back to Violet. "I mean, year 7 maybe?"
She looked back at me and then shrugged her shoulders once more, "Maybe..."
"Come on kiddos! Get on your hero suits, we're going on patrol!" Gran Torino came out with his walking stick and stood at the front door, then Deku started asking what was going on while Violet and I went and got into our hero costumes.
We both walked out and honestly, I think I looked pretty damn good and Violet was twirling around like princess and giggling like crazy.
For only about the second time we've worn them, I think they did look really cool. Especially mine if you ask me, at least I'll be warm, unlike Violet. Unless she had some secret, really warm stockings on.
Finally Deku came out and we made our way to the train station. "So why aren't we just doing patrols here?" Deku asked.
"Well, because it's very quiet her so there's not really much reason to patrol. But if we head over to Osaka, there's definitely sure to be a villain we can catch." Gran Torino explained. We all understood and we eventually got onto the train.
Violet and I sat next to eachother and Gran Torino sat next to Deku. "Hey Layla." Violet whispered to me and I gave her a concerned look.
"Yeah, are you good?" I asked and she kind of shook her head, but she also seemed very confused, "What's up?"
She scrunched up her face and tried to explain it to me, "Well, I just have this really, really bad feeling. Like something bad is going to happen." I processed her words in my head, and when I tried to give her a response, the train shook and something crashed into our cart.
Gran Torino stood up and so did the teens. When they did, they saw a massive creature with its brain half popping out and big, lifeless eyes. It was a Nomu, just like the one from the USJ.
As quickly as it crashed, it got up and flew away into Hosu City. Gran Torino jumped out of seat and yelled to Deku, "STAY HERE! USE YOUR QUIRK TO PROTECT THE GIRLS IF YOU MUST!" and with that, Gran Torino chased after the Nomu.
Deku, being the bright one he was, told Violet and I to follow him and he raced out of the train after Gran Torino. So we both ran after the older boy, I mean, he was supposed to play babysitter while Papa (yes Layla has a nickname for Gran Torino apparently) was fighting Nomus.
"Time to kick ass and eat orphans!" Violet screamed out into the city. I laughed and held onto her wrist so I didn't loose her while trying to follow Deku.
"Deku! What are we looking for?" I asked/yelled at him.
"We're looking for Ida, once we find him, I'll send out location to everyone in the class!" I looked at him with wide eyes.
He had figured out an entire plan in our 5 minutes of running?! Unbelievable that boy. They all turned a corner and Deku turned on All For One and kicked this big villain in the face. There was an adult leaning against a wall with what looked to be some pretty bad wounds, and Ida was lying on the floor, crying.
"WE'RE HERE TO SAVE YOU IDA!"
