"Where the Hell could he be?" I asked
"The cafeteria? It is around lunch time." Nate said.
"Yeah, that's probably the most logical explanation." I said. We walked down to the cafeteria, but no one was there.
"Shit. Let me call Bash, I'll get him and the squad to look for Haven too." I said, my voice coming out a lot calmer than I felt. I called Sebastian, and we organized an impromptu manhunt.
We looked everywhere, even in the rooms that were locked (I learned how to pick locks when I was 12). I finally decided to look in the woods. I ventured in alone, calling Haven's name very loudly. I stumbled upon a clearing in the woods and there was Haven, exiting a doorway that was glowing the same shade as an evergreen.
"WHAT IN HELL IS THAT?" I yelled, coming out of the shadows, and Spiderwebs, walking toward him like an angry mom.
"Shit! You weren't supposed to see that!" He said, completely calm, but slightly annoyed
"Don't just sit there! I'd like an answer to my question!" I said.
"That, Wisteria, is a portal." Haven said, annoyance tinged the edges of his words.
"Huh." I said, walking towards it. I studied it for a moment. Then I looked at Haven, the portal, then back to Haven, and to the portal. Then I shouted;
"YOLO!" and stepped in. For a brief moment I felt like gravity had decided to reverse itself and then said "oh sorry, lemme fix that" and unreversed.
The world around me was like nothing I had ever seen before, the sky was a bubblegum pink, and had a slight hexagonal pattern. And I was immediately drenched in . . . you're kidding. Purple rain. The rain was purple, and so were the storm clouds, and the lightning. And the . . . Trees? I don't know what they were, they had black and gray trunks, and where the leaves should be there were these blobby orange, red, and yellow structures that looked like they were goop dripping . . . upwards. The branches weren't normal either, they were perfectly straight, and stuck up in all directions. The weirdest thing was the ground, it was pitch black with no variegation, so it felt like you were standing on a Void. I had barely any time to take in my surroundings before I was yanked back through the portal by the hood of my jacket, into the very disappointing realm where I was from.
"What were you thinking?! You could have been hurt! You can't just walk through a portal! It leads to a different place every time, you could have been dumped anywhere - "
"Why do you care? I barely know you!" I exclaimed
"No! Your favorite hiding place was in the cupboard where the crystals were kept, you taught me how to ride a bike, our hideout was painted pale blue and there were fairy lights, there was a chalkboard sign on the door to our hideout, it said 'keep out' Out was spelled with a W instead of a U, the first Spanish you ever spoke was 'Si tú lo dices' and the first Spanish word you taught me was 'si' and you told me the swear words you heard your parents yelling when they fought, we made potions, but not like other kids, we did that with Azrael, with actual potion ingredients, I taught you how to make sigils, and we would go into the woods out back and pretend we were elves! I'm Haven! Your imaginary friend isn't imaginary! It's me, Wisty." I just stared at him for a moment, then started sobbing, and said through the tears,
"Haven!"
He came forward and hugged me while I sobbed into his shoulder. What I didn't know was that Bash and Seth had seen the entire endeavor, and Bash had made ten bucks that day. What lovely friends I have. They really are just 'swell. After I had finished crying my eyes out, I took a step back. Then something clicked in my slow-ass brain.
