After the surprise of last night with Nakanishi's retirement, I couldn't help but suspect foul play. Unfortunately, that's where my mind jumps to by default. I don't really trust Mikuri even despite her place as the sweetheart of Class D, but at the same time she doesn't seem like she would willingly hurt Nakanishi. If anything, she was pushed off a hill beforehand and Mikuri really was telling the truth about the situation. It all seemed far too convenient that once again as had happened in the past the leader was retired on the 6th night.
"Akiyama, hurry up," Horikita said as she handed me a clipboard. This felt all too familiar, but now I was in the opposite position.
I made my way over to Class D's camp where they were taking down tents and things of the like. I had already taken down my own last evening as I was set to be staying overnight at the main camp for the last shift.
I looked around for Mikuri who inevitably found me first and I handed her the clipboard and pen, instructing her to write down the names of any leaders. To my surprise, she wrote one down which even further made me believe that she had some plan from the beginning and that Nakanishi's fall was no accident.
Either way, I needed to lead them back for the final roll call in order to tally up the point totals of each class. Most of the work would be done by school officials and their computing systems for the test, but I still had to be present with the students. Chabashira would be the one announcing the final point totals with the Class A homeroom teacher always taking that responsibility.
After my class finally got their items together, making sure to leave no traces of human activity in the form of pollution, we returned back to the beach. I could hear whispers of Nakanishi's retirement behind me, but it was to be expected since they were losing points from her sudden absence.
There was a small gap of time in between the announcement of the results and the time that we arrived, but for some reason the students had it in their brains that they were the only ones who were complaining about the heat.
"Senseiiiii...It's so hot out here why can't we have shade," Maekawa sighed in pain.
Before I had a chance to shut him down, Iwasaki spoke. "You should blame climate change. The world is going to end in a few years because of us."
I sighed. This was common behavior from him to see everything on the pessimistic side. "I don't need this from you right now Iwasaki-kun. Anyways, I'm dealing with the same amount of heat right now and I can't do anything about it." The glare from the sun was reflecting off of my fake glasses and really hurting my eyes. Maybe I should just take them off and lie that I'm wearing contacts when we get back.
"You didn't have to survive on an island for a week!" Maekawa shot back.
It's not as if they would somehow be aware that I spent two weeks on an island surviving alone on top of this one, but that would obviously reveal that I was lying about having never been on an island like this.
After waiting a few moments, I was called over to look over the results. All of us kept straight faces upon observing the results because we knew that showing any emotion would let the students in on what had happened to each class.
Chabashira stepped up on the raised platform with a megaphone. "I will now be announcing the results for the special exam."
There was extreme tension among the crowds. Everyone was apprehensive to know the results of their efforts over the past week. The only thing that could be heard was the waves crashing on the shore in the distance.
"In fourth place with zero points, Class B."
There was a noticeable uproar from Class B, but that would have to be moved past in order to reveal the other results.
