"Well, well. Who do we have here?"

I didn't know what to say, it felt as if my blood had frozen to ice and my heart was beating really fast.

"I asked you a question, young lady. I would like an answer back."

Jaehyun was behind me now.

"Mom!"

"Jaehyun, be quiet. Let her answer the question."

I still did not answer.

"Are you muted?"

I opened my mouth, but closed it again. I was at loss for words. What is there to say when you just got caught by a woman who would never let a girl like you step a foot in her house?

His mom let out a sigh. "What is your name?"

"M-Miyoung, Ms. Kim."

After I had told her my name, her eyes lit up.

"Miyoung? Well, that's an interesting name. Goddess of beauty."

I felt myself going red.

"I have to say, your mom's made a great choice for your name. It is true that you indeed are very beautiful."

I wasn't sure about what to say, so I just looked at her hands.

His mom continued:

"I'm still not sure if I want you to date Jaehyun."

I looked up at her.

"Oh, no, Ms. You've got it all wrong. Me and Jaehyun are just friends!"

"Nonsense!" she blurted out. "How can you just be friends if he even fought about you?"

I looked at Jaehyun, he looked away.

"Listen, Miyoung. I don't know who you are, but I can see why Jaehyun fell for you. But, just because you've got a pretty face doesn't mean I will let you and Jaehyun date!" she told me.

I sighed. We weren't even dating. Jaehyun doesn't even like me that way.

"Now, please leave the bedroom, both of you. Miyoung, go and sleep in the guest room."

I followed her orders. I turned to look at Jaehyun, he looked at me too, without saying anything, I entered the bedroom and closed the door.

I threw myself on the bed, staring at the ceiling. What am I supposed to do, Jaehyun? Why do you make me suffer like this?

It felt like an endless night. It's almost as if I'm trapped in a windowless room. My brain is the room, there are no windows. This is what love does. I wish, I had never held eye contact with Jaehyun that day.

Next day, I woke up, feeling really tired and grumpy. I didn't want to get up. Jaehyun's mom would set unrealistically high standards for me, but this was a waste of her time. Me and Jaehyun aren't meant to be.

I heard a knock on the door. I closed my eyes. I heard the door open. I heard the steps of someone entering.

"Miyoung." His voice. Hearing his voice was like music to my ears.

I continued to pretend sleeping.

He let out a sigh. "Miyoung. You're not really asleep."

I opened my eyes.

"I'm leaving."

"What?" He looked at me, confused.

"I said, I'm leaving. Maybe I have nowhere to be, but it's better than being here."
