You sit under the tree that you had agreed to meet at. You look around to see if maybe she is running late. For the past hour, you've done this.
You know that she isn't coming, but a part of you believes that she will.
With a sigh, you slump down onto the picnic blanket you set up, under the beautiful cherry blossom with a perfect view of the Flower Capital.
You gaze out across the horizon. The view is spectacular from where you sit. The sun is beginning to set, and the lanterns along the streets begin to illuminate.
You had picked this time, because you knew that this view would create a magical experience for her.
Since you had arrived in Wano, you'd been invited to stay at the Palace with the Kozuki clan. You were the first to arrive since Wano had opened it's doors, so you were treated to a VIP experience.
Many of the citizens were skeptical of outsiders, so most steered clear of you. However, this girl, whom you were supposed to be meeting with was different. She had gone out of her way to introduce herself to you at the tea house. Kiku and Tsuru had kept the tea coming while you chatted away with her. Before leaving, you asked her to meet you here, about an hour before sunset. She happily accepted, much to the excitement of yourself and your friends.
She was supposed to be here an hour ago. The picnic basket, packed full of foods and drinks, which were prepared by your own hand, lay untouched. Serving as a harsh reminder of the truth.
You'd been stood up
Admitting it to yourself, you still held out the slightest bit of hope that maybe she was still coming. However foolish that may seem, hope was all you had at this point.
Another 15 minutes pass, and the sun is even lower now. The first stars are appearing to accent the beautiful evening sky.
With another sigh, you lay down on the blanket and look up at the sky.
Fighting back tears, both at the heartbreak you felt and the foolishness you felt, actually believing she would show up, you try to admire the view.
The factories that once lined this great land were gone, and the light pollution they created was healing.
For just a moment you lie there, in admiration of the colours of the sunset. When suddenly, you hear soft, elegant footsteps and you spot a figure out of the corner of your eye.
You look up quickly, hoping that maybe she did show up. But, you immediately feel a surge of disappointment, as it isn't her.
The disappointment washes away quickly, as you recognize the figure.
Hiyori.
Her teal hair and beautiful blue eyes look even more stunning with the sunset. She walks over and without a word, sits down next to you. You still can't help but feel a bit dejected, but her presence makes you feel a little better.
Without warning, she tilts her head slightly, resting it on your shoulder.
"This view is beautiful." She says in a dreamy voice. "I can see why you chose here"
Her comment lifts your spirit slightly, but also reminds you of your situation.
"She doesn't deserve someone like you" She continues, "Anyone who would stand up someone who put this much thought into their date, isn't worth your time."
She nuzzles your shoulder affectionately. You appreciate her words, and her affection. However, the pain of your rejection still weighs heavy on your heart.
