Something wet splashed onto my face. Drip, drip. Something told me it should feel cold, uncomfortable against my skin, yet it wasn’t. All that I could see was blackness, darkness. Eyes, I remembered and open them to revel at a stunning green leafy curtain contrast against black sky and glimmering stars. From what I could sense I was alone. I sat up to confirm this and rose to my feet, clueless and a stranger to my surroundings I began to circle looking for anything familiar. The wet substance continued to fall from the sky.  Rain?  My nose twitched, I had come across a strange smell, it provoke a fierce burn in my throat; a strange sound. Something was scurrying across the leaves. Crouching into a defensive pose a feral growl escaped my throat. Curious I made the sound again.  The scurrying sound got closer and my body told me to hide. Quickly I glided up the closest tree, amazed at my own strength and agility. Ahh, I could see it now, brown matted fur and large curled antlers. A deer my mind told me. Silently I stalked the branch above it, positioning myself perfectly I pounced. I landed precisely onto its back and it grunted it alarm. I opened my mouth and allowed my teeth to cut through its flesh like a knife through butter. Deeply I drank from it, the taste was slightly revolting but it quietened the ache in my throat for which I was grateful. The grunt’s from the deer soon turned into a gurgle and eventually silenced and I dropped it to the ground. Hungry for more I hastily looked around my surroundings in search for more. Inhaling deeply all that I could smell was damp moss and insects. Eventually my mind calmed from the frenzy and I returned to what I had done. The deer lay massacred on the ground, small flies buzzing around it. What had I done? This wasn’t right?  The agility, the speed, the strength. I’d killed a deer. And drank its blood.

Afraid I sat against the base of the closest tree, leaned my head against it and close my eyes. I tried to delve into my memories to see what I had become, what I was, but everything was hard to see. There was a lot of darkness. A fiery pain what seemed had engulfed my body for eternity. A hard bed with straps that cut into my skin. My name. What was my name?   My name...

Suddenly it hit me. A scent that excited all of my senses that in a matter of a microsecond I propelled myself forwards in a hunting crouch. The closer I got the more intoxicating the smell. The fire in my throat was back with a vengeance, the deer seemed nothing compared to this. I could see them now. Two of them. They looked like me. They smelled like prey.

Silently I climbed another tree and stalked them until I got the perfect chance to pounce down on both of them unexpectedly. Twisting ones neck until I felt it snap I hauled the weaker one towards me, it was making sounds of alarm but unlike the deer’s they were more high pitch. My teeth pierced through the skin allowing the sacred wine to soothe my throat. It was over too soon. I pushed her away and grabbed the lifeless one draining him in a matter of seconds. Angrily I threw him away; every other scent seemed bland now. Whatever, whoever, I was, this is what I lived for. The taste of paradise. Crouching into a hunter’s prowl I began to search for more but something around the women’s neck caught my attention. I went over and snatched it off. It was silver and glimmering in the faint light. Engraved onto it was five small letters. Alice.
