SHIV
I came back home after leaving her but stopped in my track when I saw siddhi and her parents sitting in the living room talking with my parents. They all were so busy in their conversation that they didn't notice me.
"We need to call panditji to fix their date of marriage as soon as possible". said siddhi's father.
"Yeah, but I think before that a small function of engagement would be better." said my mother.
"Yeah, and I think we should get them engaged within this week", said siddhi's mother
"But a week would be too less for preparation". said my mother getting worried.
"There is no need for you worry aunty, we will manage everything". said siddhi with excitement.
I was dumbfounded listening to their conversation. I mean how can they even think like this. They all know why I am getting married and how much difficult this step is for me but still planning like everything is normal. Only my father is sitting quietly listening to everyone with a serious face like he is thinking something.
"Yes, I know beta but we need to invite so many guests".........................
"What is going on here" I asked making my presence known to everyone and interrupting my mother.
"Ohh, you came, come beta we were talking about your marriage preparations". said my mother coming towards me.
"Are you serious maa, I mean you know why I am getting married and still you are planning all this, like I am doing this out of happiness and want to through a marriage party to all our guests". I said unable to control my emotions and raising my voice.
"And you Siddhi" I said turning towards her. " I told you na that I am marrying you for my daughter and you can't expect anything from me"
"Yes Shiv, I know but " she said coming towards me and I took a step back interrupting her." But what, haan. What I told you also includes that I can't give you a proper wedding and also there will be no rituals besides us getting married. Listen I am telling you this again, you can back out now also, but this is all I can give you." I told her firmly knowing that I am hurting everyone by my rude behaviour but they have to understand me also. I just can't do that. This is all I have now in me.
" And I am telling this to everyone". I said turning towards everyone. " Uncle, aunty I am sorry for all this but you both can tell her to not marry me, I will respect that but if she agrees to marry me, we are going to have a court marriage only, no guests, no engagement, nothing else".
"I know that Shiv and I am also ready for court marriage if that's what you want, because I want to see you happy" said Siddhi.
"But we aren't ready for that. Okay, we understand it's hard for you but court marriage is not done." said siddhi's father showing his anger.
"Yeah, we want our daughter to get married by Indian traditions. Atleast this the least we are expecting." said her mother.
"No mom, dad please don't force him. I understand it's hard"...........said siddhi to her parents
"No...this isn't done" said my mother interrupting her."Shiv, listen I can understand very well, it's okay if you don't want people to attend your wedding but I am not in favour of court marriage. You have to get marry according to our culture and you have to accept this. Atleast agree to have a wedding in a temple so you can get blessings of God"
