6. Thea

"Sit down," I said to Mrs. Morgan "What were you saying again?"

"Yeah, I came to inform you that I'm requesting for the maternity leave." she said.

"Oh! Is it already 8 months? I can't wait to see her!" I exclaimed.

"Yeah, me too." she smiled.

"Mail me your request letter. I'll grant it and send it to Lisa for Mr. Anderson to grant it."

"Thanks, Thea. I'll get going then."

"Yeah, sure."

When she headed out, I called my assistant

"Nate, today's meeting was rescheduled. When is it?" I asked.

"It's at noon," he said, studying his iPad.

I nodded and said, "We'll have to find someone to take over the charges of Mrs. Morgan when she goes on leave. Do you have anyone in mind?"

He shook his head and said, "Nope. Do you?"

"I don't know. I should divide the work and give it to several. Handling a chief's duty alone would be hectic."

"Yeah." he nodded. "Well, you have a date today," he said mockingly.

I rolled my eyes and said, "Yes." I sighed.

I settled in my chair in the meeting room when Mr. Anderson came

I shook my head and focused on the meeting.

"Mr. Anderson, one of my staff is going to take maternity leave. Therefore, I wanted to ask your permission to assign someone else to do her work for the nonce."

He tilted his head and asked, "Why someone else? You can do it, can't you? Since you are the best." he smirked.

I didn't take the bait and replied, "Of course, it's just a piece of cake." I plastered a smile.

Crap! Me. Alone. Gonna do all the work. Great!

I walked into the elevator after the meeting, on a call with Emma.

"Yeah, I know, right? He is trying to make me eat my own words. I checked Mrs. Morgan's mail. She's taking 4 months leave, Em. 4 months. he wants me to do the whole job!" I ranted to her "I'll call you later. I'm in the elevator." I said before hanging up.

"Didn't mean to eavesdrop, but is it the new CEO who gave you the whole work of another staff?" there was someone else in the elevator.

"Umm... yeah," I replied, getting out on the top floor, where Mr. Anderson's office was. I needed to give some papers to Lisa. I could've given it through Nate, but I'm out, so why not?

She came out with me and said, "I knew it! He is like that to me as well."

"Really?" I asked. She was pretty and didn't seem to be an employee here.

"Yeah. I'll see you sometime soon! Bye." She waved at me and went into his office.

I went to Lisa, gave the papers, and made my way to my office.
