The children laughed manically, trembling around the bathroom. Besides one. Renn sat in the corner on her phone, occasionally sighing and rolling her eyes at the others. Cat could barely stand on her own two feet. Even Renn cracked a smile watching her stumble around. Frankie lay on the floor giggling and staring at the ceiling. She kept fading in and out of consciousness, her head aimlessly bobbing around. Eli, who was barely stable themselves, made an attempt to steady cat before they both went crashing to the ground besides Frankie. This much weed was too much for their thirteen year old bodies.
"Idiots." Renn scoffed.
"Hm?" Eli looked over at Renn.
"Nothing.." She replied before putting her earbuds in.
Frankie was now fully unconscious. Cat made an attempt to get up again but she shortly ended up back on the floor. The laughter stopped. A loud set of footsteps approached the smoke filled bathroom. Eli attempted to crawled over to one of the stalls but ended up collapsing infront of it. The bathroom door flung open.
"Shit." Cat slurred as Mr Greenfield stood over her. She sheepishly raised her head to look up at him. His eyes darted across the room, looking at Frankie, Eli, Cat then Renn.
Renn finally notices him and gasps. She hurriedly pulls out her earbuds.
"Are you sober?" He asks, sounding disapointed yet stern. Renn nodded. "Please wait outside."
Renn rises to her feet and walks out of the bathroom. She couldn't help herself from snickering as she looked back at the other three.
"So, what happened here?" He spoke with aggression and annoyance.
Eli sighed, lifting herself into a sit. "Sorry sir-" Eli was cut off.
"I don't want to hear any apologies." This time he raises his voice. He chokes slightly on the grassy air. "Weed? Where did you even get this from?"
Eli looks over at Frankie.
"Ofcourse." He says, slightly whispering, clearly irritated. The room is silent for a second. That silence broken by a loud buzz. "Excuse me.".
Mr Greenfield answered his phone. "We have a fight on the science corridor sir. Oh my god! There's blood! Quick!" Mr Greenfield looks even more panicked. "I'll be right there." He hangs up.
"You three.." Eli and Cat look at him, Frankie remains unconscious. "..Two, say put." He walks towards the bathroom door. "Ok?".
They nod, sharing a sigh of relief as the door shuts behind him. There's an awkward silence once again. Frankie wakes up, coughing. Cat shuffles a little closer to her.
"You ok?" Cat asks.
"Yeah." Frankie can't help but notice how anxious Cat looks. "Why? Did something happen..?". Frankie was still frail. Unable to support her own head like a baby.
Cat stays silent, contemplating if she should tell Frankie just yet. But Eli doesn't hesitate.
"Mr Greenfield caught us." Eli's words fade into a giggle.
Frankie's eyes widened. "Oh shit!" Even her speech was shaky. "Did.. did you tell him?".
Eli turned to look at Frankie. "I didn't exactly *tell* him, no." Eli looks away, her smile fading to a look of guilt. "Sorry."
As they quite down, they hear distant screams. Cat begins to worry, shaking a little. "What was that?" She says, her breath unsteady.
Eli manages to get to her feet. Her vision abit hazy.
"Where are you going?" Cat looks at Eli, awaiting a response.
Eli walks over and picks up Cat's glasses, handing them to her. "I'll be right back. Ok?" Eli walks towards the door.
Cat puts her glasses on before nodding. "Ok..".
Eli exits the bathroom to see Renn burst through the double doors, panting.
"Woah, woah. What happened?" Eli makes an attempt to sound comforting. Although, its hard for her to sound reassuring when her speech is so slurred. After afew seconds, Eli notices blood on Renns shirt. "Jesus christ!" She yells. "Seriously, what happened?!"
Renn continues to stare at the ground. "I don't know.".
Eli tilts her head slightly. "You.. don't know?".
"It's complicated!" Renn shouts.
Eli brings her head back up. "How so?"
"Just shut up you intoxicated fuck." Her breathing stabilises. Eli leans into the wall behind her.
The screams that they were hearing earlier still continue.
Eli glances over at renn. "Do you know what that is?"."There's something wrong with everyone." Renn says, sounding serious.
After a moment of silence, Eli bursts out laughing. "Are you sure you're sober?"
Renn wacks Eli across the head. "I'm being serious you dickhead!"
"Huh?" Eli rubs her head where Renn hit her. She doesn't look convinced.
"Whatever." Renn sighs and begins walking a short distance away from Eli.
Eli sees a boy through the small glass windows on the double doors. He's bleeding, bad. Eli's sudden change in expression peaks Renns interest. There's a bang against the bathroom door as Cat comes wobbling out of it. There's a soft sound of footsteps growing more aggressive by the second. Eli cant help but notice how odd the boys movements are. He seems almost inhumane. Renn can't contain her curiosity anymore. She opens the door. A severely injured young boy.
"Are you ok?" Renns says, her voice abit shaky.
The boy twitches. They watch as he stumbles around. It's kind of eerie. The boy stares at them for a moment. They stare back, expectantly. The boy takes a deep breath in before screeching vigorously. The sound makes everyone jump. Even causing Cat to run back into the bathroom. Eli struggled onto her feet.
"What the fuck.." She stated. "..ok maybe you were being serious." Eli looks at Renn.
Renn repsonds with clear annoyance and impatience in her tone. "Yeah. Maybe."
The boy starts walk towards them. The sound of his soft footsteps echoed throughout the corridor. These gently steps grew louder and louder. Eli froze in place as she saw what was coming. She began to shake, fixated on the horrific sight coming her way. One hundred kids, maybe more, were running directly at them. Many of them had obtained injuries similar to the boys. But there was no time to think about that. Nothing good could come from this situation. The double doors went flying open as the kids began flooding in. Eli felt a tug. Renn. She dragged Eli down the corridor by her collar.
"Oi! Get off!" Eli pulled her hand off and began running with her.
Screams and growls echoed throughout the hallway. The two of them couldn't act tough anymore, they were horrified.
