With the looming threat of war potentially breaking out, I've stepped up to my position as Prince of the Homeland.
It's been four days since the initial letter was sent with Cartrite's claim. Since then, there's been no sign of him or my mother. At least not directly.
"Prince Jamie, are you listening?" I tune back in meeting the beaty-eyes of Artemis Zadan, Felix's father and appointed War Chief after my Uncle's death.
"My apologies. You have my full attention." I say offering a small smile.
"I was stating that with Felix leading the Cantu, Carlito the Elite Guard, and Bennett with his Raiders, there is no possible way that the potential Usurper would have a chance should we go to war."
"I'm sorry but I must disagree with you." All eyes find their way to me and I straighten up to make my point. "Cartrite is one beyond that of the Elite Guard. On his own he'd be able to wipe them out."
"Meaning the rest of us would be a wan I bc the park for him," Felix says, running a hand through his hair. "I can begin implementing a more effective training method to increase ferocity in battle."
"He wasn't War Chief due to nepotism," Lito speaks, "Cartrite knows to contest the throne he'll need support."
"Who stands against Dad's claim?" I ask.
"Many unfortunately," Benny states, pulling up a holograph at the center of the table. "The Homeland is made up of four territories. Raida, Chorrum, Safri, and The Capital."
The image is a map of the Kingdom with lines showing where the borders used to be drawn.
"The Raidans have never had a good relationship with the crown unfortunately, but I've been able to make progress with their Alpha. I should be able to garner his support should we need it." Benny states.
"Alright that takes care of them. What about the Lionoss and Valens?"
"Cartrite is responsible for bringing the Lionoss into the fold initially. They'll need some convincing if they haven't already chosen a side." Lito says, his brow scrunched.
"Killian and I can make the trip. I'm sure we'll be able to compromise," I state.
"Respectfully, My Prince, I do belive it would be best to leave Homeland affairs to those from the Homeland." Zadan says.
"Father, mind yourself." Felix snaps, "The Silverfang are allies, which you very well know."
"It's fine." I offer a thin smile. "Your concern is noted but as the crowned Prince and Luna, I've no need to ask your permission to do anything."
"Enough!" Dad finally speaks up. "Jamie, return home and prepare to lead some of the pack to Safri to bargain with Kove. He leads the Pride."
"Yea Sir." I rise from the table and make my way out to the courtyard.
"My Prince!" I turn to watch Felix making a sprint to me. He stands before me, taking a moment to catch his breath.
"Felix, you need to be back in there." I say.
"I just wanted to apologize for my Father. He's an old fashioned guy. Doesn't think we can trust the supernaturals."
"Does alot of the Homeland think this way?" I ask against my better judgement.
"Unfortunately. It's died down in more recent years but that's because everyone was too busy hating our King."
"Yeah." Sometimes I forget the legacy left behind by my grandfather. I was grateful to have met him at a time where he was stable. At least that's what I learned later.
