The blinding light in the hospital room made me wince, my eyes starting to water. Looking over the room, I noticed Sydney asleep in a wooden chair. The position she was in just looked uncomfortable. I knew her legs and back were probably numb. The smell of cleaning supplies and lavender engulfed the room. A typical hospital smell, I hate hospitals.
Sitting up, I did my best not to make much noise. The window to my left showcased the night sky. I was hooked up to two IV drips, I wasn't sure what they were for. I pull my legs over the side of the bed and stand up. A sharp pain in my shoulder a reminder as to why I am here. Glancing down at the white gauze, a pink patch becoming visible where my slash was.
Taking slow steps towards the window, I see numerous ambulance lights and cop cars. Grabbing on to the IV rack, I drag it with me. Paramedics are rushing around and ushering bodies into the hospital and out of my sight. Most of them covered with a white cloth making it impossible to see the faces of those underneath. This place would be busy for a couple of days. Letting out a sigh I go to turn around when I see him.
In the distance there is a line of trees, across from the hospital and past the ruckus going on. His mask lights up from the flashing lights. I hold his gaze, or what I assume to be his gaze. It feels like all of the breathe has been sucked out of my body. My lips become dry and I stumble backwards. The shape wouldn't be dumb enough to come into the hospital with this much activity would he?
"Oh you're up?"
I just about jump out of my skin when I hear Sydneys voice from behind me. Turning around, I stumble a bit walking back over to my bed. Finally able to catch my breath as I gently sit on the edge. Sydney now sitting up normally in her chair, she stands up and moves it towards my bed. Now she is sitting in front of me with a blank look.
"What happened when I passed out?"
My voice shaky and it crackles through the thick air around us. Neither one of use was prepared to have the conversation we were about to have.
"Well the cops showed up and my parents are on their way back home. Girl it was a shit show..."
Her voice dragging out as if she didn't want to relive the gruesome details of what we just witnessed and went through only a couple of hours ago. I glance up at the clock on the wall, it read 2:14am.
"How long have I been asleep for?"
I asked, trying to take the conversation in a new direction. Her face is no longer blank and instead a shadow of worry casts over her features.
"Not long, only an hour and a half. I rode in the ambulance with you once the cops and paramedics showed up. They... they found you in the middle of all of those dead teenagers. Girl it was so scary.
Before I could say anything she kept talking.
"The cops looked everywhere for that shape guy. Pretty much tore the house apart trying to find him once they took the bodies out. God, it's gonna be a shit storm when my parents get here. I texted your aunt to let her know what happened too. She said she'll be flying in tomorrow."
I lived by myself for the time being. Both of my parents had passed in a car accident three years ago so now my aunt Levy "takes care" of me. If you could even call it that. I mean being a senior in high school with pretty much no family is torment sometimes, but I can't deny the peace and quiet. Maybe aunt Levy will stay a while considering everything that has been going on.
Nodding to Sydney, I glance at the tv on the wall next to the clock. It is broadcasting a live news and the view looks like it is in front of Syd's house.
"Oh my god, Sydney, it's your house."
I point up at the screen and then unmute it with the remote lying on the bed.
The blonde lady starts going over how many teenagers are dead and how the shape is still on the loose. The sherif makes his way into the frame, his mustache looks like it needs a trim, saying something about a curfew.
"My parents are going to be so pissed."
Sydney gets up and starts walking towards the door, lifting her phone up to her ear. Just like that, I am left with my thoughts.
I began picking at my nails, my gaze watching a little dot of blood form by my cuticle. Why was I spared? How cam that psycho in a mask didn't finish me off like he did with the others? More importantly, did he follow me or the cops to the hospital? I didn't want to say anything to Syd about it, it seemed like she had enough on her plate. Her parents were having a date night in a neighboring town so I'm sure they're gonna be pissed like she said.
Getting up and walking to the window, dragging the IV with me again. I look to the area between the trees where the shape was standing a couple of minutes ago is now void. The trees fading back into darkness. Maybe it's a good thing he's no longer there. I bite my lip in an anxious habit. My nails and lips won't see the end of it.
At least tomorrow is Sunday, well later today I should say. Then back to school on Monday, you'd think they would cancel considering everything going on but that is wishful thinking.
Me and Syd will have a long day of explaining what happened to detectives as well as our parents. Honestly I'm not even worried about that. I'm more worried about how I am still alive and breathing when I should have been the next on this guys hit list.

Just like that another chapter is finished. This is more like a filler chapter, things are about to get really interesting though and I am so excited to continue writing this.
Do you guys have any thoughts or theories on what you think may happen?
How are you liking the story so far?
As always, happy reading
