Sokka ran off leaving Smellerbee and her partner stuck in their own traps. Exiting the woods Sokka was now on a ledge of ground high enough that he could see the dam to his left side and the village to his right, looking at each of them he thought of what his next action should be. Sokka was alone and had nobody to strategize with so it was all up to him to be the hero. He slid down the ledge he was on and made it to the ground, he looked towards the way to the dam. Sokka knew the Freedom Fighters were getting the dam all rigged to blow up so he started to hurry toward it but then his instincts kicked in and he stopped. Even if Sokka made it to the dam before it was blown up he'd still have no clue how to keep anyone from detonating it. He saw that the village was much closer and he might have a better chance of warning the villagers of the flood beforehand and clearing them out to safety. Sokka's instincts told him that warning the village would be the better option so he turned around and headed there as fast as he could. It was a decent sized sprint and Sokka was getting tired out but the thought of the entire town's population being swept away by the dam and all the innocent lives that would die in the process gave him the energy to power through, but by the time Sokka arrived at the village he was panting heavily. Sokka only allowed himself a couple of seconds to catch his breath before he hurried to the center of the town where all the people were. Sokka took in a deep breath and and called out
"Everybody, listen to me, you all need to leave here now!"
Sokka's shouting gained the attention of the town's people, as well as a lot of the Fire Nation soldiers who took quick notice of Sokka's foreign apparel and quickly confronted him.
"Water Tribe boy, what kind of stunt are you trying to pull here?" A large soldier demanded him.
Sokka proceeded to talk quickly.
"You have to trust me, you're all in danger!"
The large soldier wasn't fazed.
"Really, how so?" He asked.
"Someone rigged the dam to blow up and that will cause the whole town to be flooded!" Sokka told him.
The town's people were showing signs of fear but none of the soldiers seemed to be convinced and they were about ready to arrest Sokka when a voice in the crowd spoke up.
"Soldiers, hold on" an old man said loudly as he hobbled into everybodies view.
Sokka recognised him as the same old man he saw Jet attack yesterday.
"This young man defended me from a group of miscreants the other day, we should listen to him, I think he might honestly be trying to save all of us now as well."
Hearing this from a fellow member of the Fire Nation the soldiers' suspicions were lifted just enough to hear Sokka out.
"Make it quick boy." The large soldier ordered Sokka.
Knowing how close to death everyone was Sokka was talking a mile a minute about the whole plan to blow up the dam and flood the town to get rid of the Fire Nation, being careful not to bring up Jet and the other Freedom Fighters by name, nor where their camp was so that none of them would get put up for bounty afterwards. Upon listening to Sokka's hastily told story and the old man's support, all the Fire Nation Soldiers rounded up every man, woman and child in the town and led them a long distance outside it, standing on a decent sized hill. Sokka, satisfied with his accomplishment, headed over to Appa, who he had left sitting close by and climbed on him so he could ride back to Jet's basecamp. While riding on Appa, Sokka heard the explosion followed by the crashing sound of a wave of flowing water but Sokka's instincts knew that the chaotic event that was happening wasn't going to hurt anyone, and that good thought stuck with Sokka as he, and Appa made their way back to camp to help Aang and Katara deal with Jet.
