"This can't happen," she whispered, her body inching closer to mine "I don't want to hurt you."

"Then don't" I whispered back, as I leaned into her.

Her hand slid across my back, landing on my hip as she hooked her fingers into one of my belt loops.

"What if it ruins everything?"

Her breath was hot on my ear, it sent tingles across my whole body. I closed my eyes, trying to focus on the words in my head rather than the smell of her burnt vanilla body mist.

"But what if it doesn't?"

She pulled away, the hand that had been on my hip was gone. She looked at me, her eyes darted back and forth slightly, as if searching for something. I looked back at her, resisting the urge to stare at her lips for too long. I reached for her hand, watched as she recoiled slightly before taking it. I placed her hand back on my hip and with my other hand, I reached up and took her chin gently.

"How about we stop the what ifs and I just kiss you already, deal?" I asked breathlessly, hardly believing those words had just left my mouth.

Her eyes widened as she nodded, her face slowly moved towards mine. I leaned in slowly, our lips...

"SAVANNAH! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"

I groaned, pulling a pillow over my face.

Another dream about kissing my best friend, great. As if senior year isn't already hard, let's add sexual awakening to the mix. Okay so, the liking girls part isn't new but the huge crush on my best friend is...I think? We had been best friends since freshmen year. We met during the years first school play, I was working on painting a part of the set during lunch when she came in to run some lines with one of her friends that was also in the play.

I had heard the auditorium door open, but was too focused on the colors I was mixing to look up until I heard the squeaking of sneakers getting closer. I looked up and was met with a smile.

"Hi!" She shouted excitedly, walking towards me "is it okay if we practice on the stage? Just so we can test our marks?"

She pushed a stray brown wave behind her ear, her dark eyes staring at me intently.

"Yeah of course." I smiled back, looking back down at the set piece I was working on "I'm not in the way am I?"

"You're perfect!" She exclaimed, "that wall piece is coming together beautifully! I love the colors you chose, it really looks like stone!"

I chuckled and wiped my brush on my pants.

"Thanks, my choices were either grey or more grey but I think I chose the right one"

I stood up, stretching my back and arms. I hadn't realized how long I had been crouched in that position, but I was suddenly aware of all my aches.

"I'm Annie by the way" the girl said quietly, smiling again at me. "What's your name?"

"Savannah" I replied as I kneeled back down and started working again.

And that was it. It became a habit, us meeting that way. Annie would practice her lines while I worked on the set. Sometimes her friend would be there, or the other stage crew kids. Most of the time it was just us, and we would end up talking for hours forgetting why we were there in the first place. I would even help her with her lines, our school was putting on Romeo and Juliet for the first show, Annie of course playing Juliet and I would run the lines of Romeo for her.

Annie was pretty, but she was more than that. She was funny, kind and a social butterfly. When we would see each other in the halls, she was always with a big group of friends that just seemed to be orbiting around her; she was like the sun. I was more of a loner, spending most of my time in art class or in the auditorium, I had a few friends but nothing like Annie. She was like a light in the darkness and I was like a moth being drawn to the flame.
