There was an annoying crying sound coming from outside of his house. Logan initially tried to ignore it, but the crying didn't stop for a second. Heavily annoyed, he gets up from where he is sitting on the couch and walks over to the door and opens it.
There's no one outside, and the cries have started to settle down. He stepped back in, about to close the door when something caught his eye.
There was a basket on the floor, with a fucking baby inside of it. His face scrunched with disgust, he never liked kids.
Nonetheless, he crouched down and observed the baby. That's when he saw a note with, would you mind, horrendous handwriting.
Fuck you, James. If I'd have known you were a mutant, things would have gone differently. I don't want her. I don't care what you do with her. Just get her out of my life.
Logan frowned, there wasn't even a name in the letter. He doesn't know the mother's name - neither the child's name, it occurs to him later.
He thought out his options, considering giving the baby in to the police because there's no way in hell that he has a kid. He picked it - her - up, his arms awkward as he tried not to jostle her body roughly. He slipped his shoes on, the baby still in his arms. She started crying once more, this time it was clear it was out of anger. He felt something prick him, and he cursed, almost dropping her in the process. Cursing, he looked down at the still crying baby.
That's when he saw her claws. Tinier, but identical to his.
"Oh fuck no."
He didn't want to give her in to the police anymore. That was his child. He stared at her, and she stared back at him, her curly hair peeking through the blanket she was swaddled in. Her light eyes wide, she reached up to touch his cheek out of curiosity. Logan cursed himself out for melting slightly at the baby's touch, he knew he hated children.
He looked at her awkwardly, his attempt at what was meant to be a smile was lopsided and looked more like a grimace. His gaze went back down to the basket, and he saw that there was a birth certificate, but the name area was blank. No first name, no last name. Logan didn't even know who her mother was.
So, her birth was registered, but no details were. Damn.
As much as Logan hated children, he didn't lack common sense at all. He carried the girl in both arms, and did a quick check to make sure she wasn't injured. She wasn't, but she was definitely neglected, it was obvious that she hadn't been washed for ages, and his enhanced sense of smell surely was not the reason he picked up the scent, for he was fairly sure a regular human would smell it too. Her clothes were dirty, and her face had dirt on it. It occurred to Logan that the child may have his healing abilities as well, hence why she seemed physically uninjured. Her mother probably dropped her, hence the dirt on her face.
With a sigh, Logan bent down in order to pick up the basket, grabbing it with his free hand before closing the door shut with his foot, and walking back into his home. He placed the basket onto the couch, laying out his options.
He could always just bring the child into the police. He frowned. He didn't know of anyone with remotely similar mutations to him, so it was practically certain that this baby was his daughter. Fuck his dumb decisions, he was done for right now. He'd probably double check with Xavier later on, but for now, there wasn't anything else he could do. It was currently 2 in the morning, and he really didn't have the energy for dealing with the police this early in the morning.
He looked back down at the kid in his arms, and the kid stared right back. It was a miracle that this kid wasn't crying right now. With a groan of annoyance, he decided to take the kid and start up a bath. As much as he wanted to ignore this whole situation, this kid - for now - was his sole responsibility, whether he liked it or not. He walked over to the bathroom, unwrapping the kid from the dirty blanket that covered her tiny form.
