The reception was held in Clay and Kylie's backyard. There were rootbeer floats.
It was pretty much the coolest wedding ever.
It was simple, really. We had music playing through speakers, a dance floor, a huge table full of food and desserts, and of course, a rootbeer float bar. There were only a few tables, just enough for the handful of people we'd invited. Fairy lights were strung through the trellises and fence, still magical in broad daylight. It was great.
As soon as we got back to the house, I altered my dress. Kylie had come up with the idea to have a detachable skirt, so now the dress came halfway to my knees. Everyone loved it, especially me, who found the glittery skirt of the long dress to be slightly heavy and hot.
Grayson and I were having the time of our lives. We danced to the cheesy love songs we'd picked, and to the serious love songs we'd picked. We drank so many floats we quickly lost track. We took a million pictures together. A million pictures were taken of us by other people (mainly Kylie, which seemed like a sign that she was evolving into a mom, but I decided not to bring it up). We ate salsa and macaroni and potato salad and anything else we'd put on the menu. It was the best day of my life.
Finally around dinner, everyone started going home. People had flights back to Canada or families waiting at home or in Nina's case, a cat to feed. Soon it was just Clay and Kylie in the backyard, the four of us sitting in lounge chairs around the pool.
"You sure you don't want us to stay and clean up?" I asked doubtfully, looking at the mess in the yard.
Kylie waved me off. "It's your honeymoon! What, you're really going to be late because you were cleaning up? You'd miss a flight to clean? Actually, that does kinda sound like you."
"Okay, nevermind, you two can stay here and do it yourselves," I said, sticking out my tongue at her.
"That's the spirit," she said approvingly. "Have fun, you crazy kids."
"What are we, four?" Grayson asked.
She exchanged a glance with Clay. "You better not be four with the crazy stuff I'm thinking of."
"Okay, we're going, enjoy cleaning up an entire wedding by yourselves," I said quickly.
"Byeeeee, have fun, go crazy, bring us back souvenirs," Clay sang.
"Thanks for everything guys," I said, hugging them both.
"Including the hopes and dreams I have for you guys for tonight?" Kylie asked innocently.
I glared daggers at her. "Nope. You don't get any gratitude for those. Anyways, bye!"
Grayson and I slipped out the gate, heading out to his car parked on the street. We both slid into the backseat, his driver taking us to the airport. As soon as the door had shut, I scooted across the seat and curled up next to Grayson.
"Darling, you look so tired," he mused.
"I've been up since three," I agreed.
He kissed my forehead. "Sleep on the plane, okay? Or at least try to."
"I still can't believe you splurged to fly with the common folk," I laughed.
"First off, it's not a splurge," he countered. "It's more expensive for me to pay for the gas and the pilot when we fly private. Second, it's still first class. Cushy."
