THE GREEN TOUNGE

The Starting

One night, Alina was coming back from finishing her work at the office to see her father. it was 8pm. The streets were deserted, the street lamps were the only luminous objects in the surrounding area and it was so quiet that you could hear a pin hitting the floor. As the wind was blowing through Alina's hair, she heard footsteps behind her. The noise made her turn around to see if anyone was behind her but she saw no one, so she continued on her journey home. She didn't hear any footsteps on her way home. 

She reached home and knocked on the door. Eva the caretaker opened the door and greeted her. Alina asked Eva  about her father's well being and Eva answered the questions and picked up her helmet and left the house after wishing a goodnight to both Alina and her dad. Alina told  about her day and asked about her dad's day and talked to him for some time and took her father up and put him to sleep. Then she came down and heated up some leftover pasta and began eating it on the couch while watching tv. Suddenly the dog started to bark loudly at the window which startled alina. she got up to see why her dog was barking. When she looked out the window, she saw a man who was starring right at her. His hands were in his pockets and his face was covered by a paper bag. What was a minute felt like a hour for Alina as she made eye contact with the man. She shut the window and locked all the windows and doors and tried to calm her dog down. She felt anxious because of the experience but tried to convince herself that the man meant no harm so that she could sleep at night. As she was about to sleep, due to her anxiety, her mind started to fill with images and thoughts of her mother and sister's death. She nearly cried because of these thoughts and tried to forget about them. She finally fell asleep.

Next mourning, she got up and woke her father up, she feed the dog and got ready for work. She heard a knock on the door. It was Eva and Alina greeted her warmly and offered her breakfast. She said her goodbyes and left for work. When she was going to open the gate, she saw the fence towards her right was broken. She remembered what happened last night but tried to forget about it. She left the yard. She was walking down the street and saw her neighbor Dave gardening with his wife Sindy, she greeted them a good mourning and they greeted her back. The day seemed peaceful, everyone seemed happy and cheerful. There was a pleasant breeze blowing through her hair and she felt calm. She reached her office and said hello to her friend Gemma  and started to work.
