I went back downstairs.
"I'm going to get some fresh air, mom!" I called out.
I quickly put on my shoes and ran out of the house. I didn't hesitate for a minute. It had to be now, I had to meet Miyoung now.
I ran to her neighborhood and started searching for her house. It was one of these red houses. I just couldn't remember which one. Maybe the mailbox would reveal it?
I looked at the mailbox at maybe 15 houses, until I finally found the Lee's. I had second thoughts at first, what if this was another family of Lee's? Maybe it wasn't Lee Miyoung and her parents.
I took a deep breath. I had to try this house, what's the worst thing that could happen?
- Lee Miyoung's POV -
I lay on my bed, hugging my elephant plushie and thinking about what Jaehyun was doing now.
Then, I heard a knock on the front door. I just pulled the blanket over my head and pretended to not hear.
"LEE MIYOUNG! GO AND OPEN THE DOOR! GET OUT OF THAT BEDROOM!" my mom shouted from the kitchen.
I really didn't want to get up.
"MIYOUNG. DON'T TEST ME! GET OUT AND OPEN THE DOOR OR GET GROUNDED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS!"
What did it matter if I got grounded? There was no point in going to school anymore and I could just rot here in my bedroom, eating instant noodles, drinking banana milk and playing video games.
"OH, MIYOUNG! I GET IT! LET ME GRAB THE FLIP FLOP!"
I quickly sat up. Anything but the flip flops. I went out of my bedroom and went to open the front door.
"Fix your hair before opening the door, it looks really messy," my mom hissed at me.
I just fixed my hair with my fingers and opened the door.
And, of course, there was Jaehyun!
"Hello, Miyoung," Jaehyun said.
I went out of the house and closed the door after me.
"What is it?" I asked.
He looked down at his shoes.
"Could we go for a walk?" he asked.
"Um... why?"
"Just, I have to tell you something."
I slowly nodded.
"I just gotta give my mom a made-up explanation of where I'm going."
I went back inside.
"Well, mom! I have to get going... me and my classmate are going to work on a school project, she's already leaving. I gotta hurry!"
My mom didn't even bother to look at me.
"Fine, don't be late," was all she said.
I quickly put on my shoes and went out of the house.
"Sure, Jaehyun, let's go for a walk."
- Kim Jaehyun's POV -
How was I supposed to tell her that I'm leaving Korea for a whole new country that's in a different continent?
We started walking and didn't say much for the first 10 minutes.
Finally, Miyoung started speaking.
"So, what did you want to tell me?"
I gulped. "Let's sit down on that bench over there and talk."
We walked towards the bench and sat down.
Miyoung looked at me, waiting for me to speak.
"So, Miyoung, firstly, I wanted to apologize for what happened the other day at my house."
She didn't say anything, she just looked away.
"Um... it wasn't my intention to make you feel uncomfortable or unwelcome in my house," I continued.
Miyoung looked at me.
"You didn't make me feel uncomfortable. Was that all you wanted to say?"
I shook my head. "One more thing."
"Well?"
"Well... I recently got accepted into... Oxford."
- Lee Miyoung's POV -
I couldn't believe it. I looked at him in shock. I stood up, I couldn't take this anymore.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.
Jaehyun looked at me, in awe. "You're my... friend."
Friend! So, after all, I was just a friend.
I was furious.
"Of course! We're just friends, right!"
He looked at me, confused.
"I don't understand."
"Of course, you don't understand! You don't feel the same way for me! I've loved you since the start of the school year, but you never shared the mutual feelings!"
Now, Jaehyun stood up.
"You just asked to eat lunch and you called me pretty because you think you're superior! You wanted to make me fall for you even more! You pretended to care when I became friends with Son Heejin, but no, you don't! You just wanted to pull my away from people and then when you've made me fall for you, you would just leave me lonely!"
Jaehyun started walking closer towards me.
"Now, don't pretend that you care! You're leaving for the UK and you're happy to be leaving! You don't want to deal with people like me anyways because you're so-"
Before I could finish my sentence, Jaehyun had pulled me into a kiss.
He quickly broke the kiss and looked flustered.
"I'm sorry," he started.
I interrupted.
"It's okay! I- um, you like me back?"
He nodded.
"Oh, I'm sorry for yelling at you", I muttered.
He gave me a hug and looked at me in the eyes.
"I will love you no matter where I am, we've just met at the wrong time. You're the only one for me, but this is not our time."
A teardrop fell from his eye.
"I don't want to be involved in your life anymore, Miyoung. I don't want to hurt you again."
He let go of me and walked away.
I burst into tears. Why should being in love hurt this much?
I love you, Jaehyun, for being there for me, but I also hate you Jaehyun, for proving to me that love hurts more than a bullet in the heart.
