Boredom.

I shut my journal, sealing my recent entry within the thin white pages lined with a faded blue. It's been years since I've taken a pause in my life to just scribble down how I feel.

My legs uncurled allowing me to stand up whilst tossing the old diary aside. My phone in my left hand, my legs carrying me downstairs and to the dimly lit kitchen. My socks were unable to protect my feet from the cold tiled floor as I wandered toward the fridge.

I reached for the handles of the refrigerator doors, swinging them open with a rough tug. My eyes scanned each shelf hastily in desperation for something to soothe my hunger until heavy footsteps could be heard against the creaking wooden stairs which lead to the upper level of the house.

"Where are you going?" I curiously questioned, twisting my head away from the fridge and in his direction. His frizzy, shabby dark hair grabbing my immersion.

"Just a party."

"Another one? My god, Kaito. What even goes on over there anyways..." I scoffed, retiring my attention back toward the fridge before grabbing yesterday's leftovers and prepping them for the microwave.

"Stop being nosy, Kana. I'll be back eventually. Keep the door locked." He effortlessly waved before making his way to the front door.

I paused for a moment, debating whether or not to ask the question I had in mind.

"Hey, wait. Let me come with you." I just barely shouted before peaking my head toward the entry way.

He whipped his body around to face me, his jaw tightly clenched in displeasure. "Absolutely not." He shifted himself to a sense of authority within the snap of a finger.

"Why not?" I frowned with annoyance of his fatherly behavior. I wandered up to him, my arms crossed as if I was challenging his jurisdiction.

His coal black eyes surveyed my face, my own eyes seeming to back down as they couldn't decide what to stare at whilst they flickered around with nerves. I took a step back, his fierce demeanor seeming to shove me backwards.

"Scaredy cat." He cockily grinned before approaching the front door. I scoffed, heading back to the kitchen in defeat. "Call me if you need anything." Kaito advised followed by a subtle echo of his voice from the corridor.

He stepped outside, shutting the door which was followed by a small click from him locking it.

After returning to the kitchen, I waited by the microwave whilst my leftovers spun in perfect little circles as it heated up just enough.

"Scaredy cat." I mocked him in a deeper voice that sounded hardly close to his yet I was satisfied enough. "Asshole." I spat before letting the situation go with an eye roll.

With an ear ringing beep that repeated several times, the food was done. I opened up the microwaves door and grabbed the bowl containing the steaming food, consequentially burning the tips of my fingers.

I winced from the subtle burning pain and grabbed an oven mitt, bringing my leftovers to the table in front of the living room couch. After cleaning up the kitchen, I curled up in to a comfortable position on the couch then turned on a show to occupy my mind.

Minutes later, my food had been eaten leaving me with a regrettably burnt tongue yet a satisfyingly full stomach. It was just me and the TV remaining. My eyes began to shut almost entirely before my body jolted, in an effort to keep me conscious. This repeated over and over until I involuntarily drifted off.

...

The screeching twist of the front doors lock. The highly pitched squeaking of its hinges had awoken me with a cunning feeling of fret. I reached for my phone on the rug beside me. The time read 2:13 am. I rose from the couch, walking toward the kitchen and peaking my head in to the hall of the corridor...

"Kaito?" I intoned, rubbing my eyes which were overwhelmed by fatigue. "Are you out of your mind? It's 2 in the morning-" I paused. My slurring words halted. My eyes peered at a tall man entering the house beside my brother.

"This is Xander by the way."
