My name is Lily and I am a seventeen year old aspiring author :), I have always wanted to be an author for as long as I can remember and it is my penultimate dream to be published some day. This is my longest project that was initially named 'The Misadventures of Rowena Cricket,' but after almost 2 years of brainstorming I quickly came up with a new title 'The Painted Slippers' as I developed the idea of a magic system called the 'undercurse' which will make more sense once you get into the story. My first inspiration for this story was a little book called David Copperfield written by Charles Dickens in the 1840's-1850's and as pretentious as that may sound, the book helped me through a very dark period of my life (the movies with Dev Patel and Hugh Dancy are equally as good in my opinion, you should totally watch those). However, I also love fairytales and my lifelong love for Disney Princesses (my favourites are Belle, Rapunzel and Tiana) definitely manifested it's way into this story and into the rest of the series, if I write more stories based around this concept of fairytale retellings. From the title, you could probably gather this is another Cinderella retelling, however I have tried my best to make it original and authentic to me and my writing style, like Gail Carson Levine in Ella Enchanted and Margaret Peterson Haddix in Just Ella.
I thought I should also give pre-warnings of things that are discussed or mentioned in The Painted Slippers: Physical and mental abuse, Alcaholism, death and grief, exploitation and neglect of children, the character of Mr Maddaly is sketchy in a majority of different ways and it is very clear that he is the villain of the novel. In some cases these topics are quite subtle but in the areas where it isn't I will put a warning at the beginning.
As a final note, this story is far from finished. So far I am the only person who has read it in it's entirety so if you could tell me what you think and any opinions, I would be very grateful!
