claire's pov.
"hi! my name is kai! how are you?" he signed.
i smiled.
he made me smile after a long time.
"how did you learn sign language?" i wrote in a piece of paper. "i learned it from the internet!" he wrote back.
it made me so happy.
when the bus came, we both went in. we basically kept talking, i didn't know that this friendship can be this close so shortly.
when we arrived, kai had to go to his class, i do too. we both said our byes and left.
i went to class. i kept thinking how he learned sign language, just for me. did i pay attention to class? i don't know. i kept thinking how we're already getting close in a span of a few days. seriously. i hope no one ever hurts him.
i just kept staring at one direction. thinking about nothing but him. it's like he's in front of me, and then i snapped back into reality. i realized that i had to listen and focus because this is a very important lecture.
i hope i can hang out with him soon though.
after class.
after class, i decided to talk about something to kai, about why he looked so familiar. i waited for kai's class to end, and after that when he came out from his class, i decided to ask him.
"hey kai, i know this is pretty weird... but i felt like i've seen you before, when we were younger..." i told him by giving a note.
"wait... really? well, i have been thinking about that too!" he wrote back.
and suddenly, i remembered.
"didn't i meet you in piano class? are you... the penguin bag guy?"
kai looked shocked as i gave the note to him.
"omg... how did you still remember that i have that penguin bag?"
"well, when i was younger, i found it cute..."
"me or the bag?"
third person's pov.
claire and huening kai got closer as weeks, months, and years passes. they've hang out together a lot, and went to a lot of places. they went to each other's houses and played games, like what normal friends do.
because of this, claire gotten more happier and happier. huening kai even got fluent in sign language. they talk about everything, but claire never really mentioned about her past.
she's still scared to talk about it. she's still sad about the incident, even though she improved a lot.
well, about huening kai, he starts to see her more than a friend. but, he's also scared to open up.
how can they be honest to each other, when they don't talk about their problems?
bottling up your feelings can be a bad thing. it can also bring the relationship further.
after about 2 weeks later, claire and huening kai went to huening kai's father's music shop.
claire's pov.
it's my first time meeting huening kai's dad, and i was excited to see the music shop, even though i was a little scared.
i went in the music shop, and there was so many instruments. i remember my childhood, where i would get so excited finding a music shop, literally wanting to get every instrument and try it.
"what do you think?" kai asked, i told him i liked it.
and then his dad came, along with 2 other people. "so claire, this is my dad, and my two sisters! lea, who's older than me, and hiyyih, who's younger!"
i greeted them all, i thanked them for having me here.
"oh yeah! claire, they said that they're just going to buy some stuff in the super market. they told us to stay here for a while." kai told me, and i said sure.
i looked around the music shop, only to see my childhood playing like a movie.
i remembered every single bit. i remember the times were my parents were with me. my dad playing the guitar, while i was playing the piano, my mom singing and dancing with my brother.
and then, i went to the piano. the piano was the exact same one that my parents gave me when they died. i wanted to cry, but i held it in.
i sat on the piano bench, looking at every single key. it has been so long since i ever played. i got so emotional, i started crying. i tried to hide it, but it's too late. he saw it.
"claire, what happened?" he asked. i tried hiding my face, and then he hugged me.
he pulled away from the hug, and then he asked me what happened.
i wiped my tears, and decided to tell him.
"when i was younger, i was just like you. i was so passionate about music." i told him, and he looked shocked, he knew that i didn't talk about it that much.
"i completely fell in love with music, it was like my world. my parents were so supportive of my interest, i learned how to play so much instruments at such a young age, just like you, kai."
"i've always remembered playing millions of songs with my family. my dad was playing the guitar, my mom singing and dancing with my brother."
"i wished that lasted forever, but it didn't."
"my parents died in a car crash, a day after my 12th birthday. you know what was their gift? a grand piano. exactly like this one." i pointed it out.
"they were excited to see my reaction. only if they were there."
"earlier that day, my mom told me to keep being passionate on music, and she always told me to keep my smile. that was a promise, and i broke it."
"i was completely devastated. i didn't know what to do. i completely broke down. everything turned for the worst for me."
"i completely quitted music. for a long time, i never dared to play again, because of that incident."
"and, that was until i met you. you make me want to play again."
