"𝗖𝗔𝗡'𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗠𝗘!" The two kids were running around freely on the grassy plain. The (h/c) child started running faster after hearing that statement. "I bet I can!" They quickly caught up to Lyney and gently tapped his back. "Got you." They said with a smile.
"Aw.. you're too fast, Y/N!" Y/N laughed, "Hm.. maybe you're just slow!" Y/N started running before Lyney could even notice. "Huh? Hey!" He quickly started running after Y/N. The two of them played for a little while longer before they were completely out of breath.
Lyney collapsed onto the grass, laying on his back. Y/N laid down next to him. Y/N pointed to a cloud. "Hey Lyney, look! Doesn't that cloud look like a cat?" Lyney turned his attention to the sky. "Uh.. It just looks like a blob to me."
"Oh, come on! Use your imagination." Y/N pointed again. "See? There's the ears, and there's the tail." Lyney looked more closely. "I see it now! It really does look like a cat." They talked for a bit longer until they saw a familiar pair of purple eyes and long brown hair.
Lyney sat up. "Oh, Lynette you're back!" he said. Y/N waved to her. She demurely waved back to the two of them. "Y/N's mother is here to pick them up," she informed. "Already?" Y/N asked. Lynette nodded in response.
"Aw.." Lyney said, dejected. "Well then, I'll see you tomorrow!" he continued. Y/N nodded and smiled. They waved goodbye to Lyney and Lynette and watched as they waved back.

A few years later, Lyney and Y/N were in middle school. They were looking at their schedules. "Huh, looks like they finally added orchestra as a class," Y/N said. Lyney wore a light smile.
"Do you think the teacher will be annoyed or impressed when she finds out we already know everything?" He asked. Y/N laughed in response. "Probably annoyed." Lyney and Y/N had been learning the violin from a very young age. Some would even call them child prodigies. "Our classmates won't know what hit them!" Lyney said.
As time passed, it became no secret that Lyney and Y/N had a knack for the violin. Every time they would play, a swarm of students would surround them.
"Wow.. they're so talented!"
"I wish I could play like that!"
Some even had hints of envy in their eyes. They always got the solos, and they were always seated at the front. One day, Lyney and Y/N were walking to class together. "Hey, Y/N. I was thinking about something the other day."
"Yeah, what is it?" Y/N responded. "I always see older musicians doing duets together." he pointed out. "Wouldn't we look so cool performing like that?" his eyes lit up just thinking about it.
Y/N thought about it for a moment. They had done countless solo performances, and duets with the piano, but never another violin. "Huh, yeah. It sounds fun! We should try it out." Lyney smiled at Y/N's response.
-
The duo was at Y/N's house. It was their last practice before their first duet together. They had been practicing for a few hours and were taking a break. "Hey.. Lyney can I ask you something?" Y/N said. Lyney finished drinking his water. "Of course! What is it?"
"Do you think.. we'll always be like this?" They asked. "Hm? What do you mean?" he questioned. "Well, we've been together since we were in preschool.." They paused for a moment. "And honestly, I can't imagine us apart. And.. I'm scared for the future. What if--" Lyney put a hand on Y/N's shoulder.
"Y/N, you're one of the most important people in my life. You don't have to worry." He smiled sincerely and his eyes softened. "I'll never leave your side. I promise." He assured. Y/N nearly burst into tears. "Thank you, Lyney."
"Aw, it's nothing! Now come on, chin up!" He pointed to the smile on his face. Y/N smiled back through teary eyes.

A few days later, they finally had their first duet together. They were both backstage, dressed for the occasion. Lyney peaked through the curtain. "Wow thats.. a lot of people.." He said, nervously tugging at his collar.
Y/N pat him on the back. "Think of it as one of our practices." They said with a warm smile. He took a deep breath and nodded.
They got on stage, welcomed with applause. As soon as they started playing, the audience was completely silent, completely awestruck. The way that both of them played fit like puzzle pieces, creating an ethereal melody. After they were finished, the crowd immediately erupted in applause. Y/N snuck a glance at Lyney and smiled. He smiled back.
After that day they frequently started performing duets together, which made them even closer. They became quite well-known in their town, because of their performances.

A few years had passed, and now they were in high school. The two of them were practicing at Lyney's house for an upcoming performance.
Y/N set down their violin. "Today's practice was good!" Lyney smiled and agreed. "Haha.. yeah!" Something was obviously off. His smile wasn't natural, and there was a hint of sadness in his eyes. He didn't talk as much as usual. Y/N's mood visibly changed.
"Lyney.. what's wrong?" they asked in a worried tone. Lyney hesitated for a moment. "I.." he sighed. "Y/N.. I have to tell you something." Y/N gave their full attention to Lyney. "Yeah..?"
Lyney's eyes dulled. "Y/N.. I'm so sorry." Y/N grew more worried. "Sorry? Sorry for what? Lyney..?"
"I.. I have to break our promise.", he put his head down. "Break our promise..? Lyney, what do you mean..?" Lyney didn't have the strength to look at Y/N.
"I'm moving."
Y/N's whole world shattered. "What? You're.. leaving?" Lyney didn't speak for a while. "Lyney.. please tell me why." Y/N was close to tears.
"I'm sorry." he whispered.
