A streak of color flew across the sky as a body followed swiftly after, to the amazement of the civilians watching below.
The group being pursued jumped from building to building, none the wiser of the oncoming threat.
"That was too easy! Like taking candy from a baby!" Their leader cackled in delight, only to become a grunt of pain as he was swept off his feet with the rest of his crew.
They soon found themselves trapped in a rainbow whip that soon turned a luscious red as it drained them temporarily of their abilities.
"Thought you were getting away so easily?"
Dizzy, the three turned their heads to see a young man in a white princely outfit with a red cape, gold decorating his clothing, and a red mask. His gentle face did nothing to hide his victorious demeanor.
"Shit, the Detective Prince..." One of them groaned, annoyed, "I knew I was forgetting something." The prince laughed lightheartedly, "I would be hurt, but I'm not the one getting arrested."
Taking their stolen valuables in one hand, he hauled the tied-up trio on his back with the other and returned to the jewelry store they robbed.
Ignoring the cheers of people who saw it all, the princely disguise faded with his adrenaline to reveal a young man with long, curly brown locks pulled into a ponytail, eyes whose color ranged from wine to rust, a soft smile, and a detective-like outfit.
The young man smiled, charming but completely fake. Not that anyone ever noticed.
His name is Goro Akechi, also known as the Detective Prince and Enchanter Specialist.
What's an Enchanter? We'll come back to that.
He saw the officers grin at him, some amazed and others condescending. "Another easy catch ey, Princey," chuckled a mocking officer, and the young man (barely) held in a very pissed-off snarl.
Instead, he smiled gracefully, but his tone was cold as ice, "It's Detective Akechi, and if you don't want me here, you can learn to keep up with and catch criminal Enchanters yourself."
Even the criminals on his back whistled at that sting.
The officer turned red with fury, but Akechi merely leveled him a challenging stare, and the man stayed silent.
Smart.
He huffed a smug chuckle before walking to his uniquely designed truck with the two officers who usually partnered with him. After handing over the evidence and stolen goods, he cuffed the group to special cuffs attached to the armored truck.
Finally, he climbed back there with them, shutting the doors, and sat. Giving his typical two-bang signal, they left.
"Do they do that often?" Looking at the young criminal, he raised an eyebrow. "Do what?" They shifted nervously, "Y'know...belittle you...demean you...make you seem insignificant...?"
Scoffing, he looked down, "Too often...but it's not easy to have someone half your age...a teenager no less, outrank you. So easily climb ranks that took you years and almost instantly outclass you. Most of them probably hate me; I just learned to live with it. I'm used to it."
The leader looked out the tiny window, "Smile through the pain?" The detective looked at the grey ceiling of the red metal van, "As beautifully as it takes to get through the day..."
The Detective Prince was the most popular, most beloved person in Japan. His world must be streaked and painted in vibrant, breathlessly beautiful colors, right?
