Pairing: Daryl Dixon x reader

There wasn't any other man that you would rather be with in the apocalypse than Daryl. He was always ready for anything and made sure that he taught you every skill he knew so you would be ready to. Every skill, it seems, except fire making.

"DARYL!"

He came running back through the woods to the campsite you had both set up with a large pile of sticks in his arms and drops them immediately in shock. "Small fire! I said to set a small fire! This is not small!"

Thinking on his feet, Daryl grabbed the bucket that lay beside the makeshift tent, filled it with water and doused the large flames of the campfire, leaving the air filled with thick smoke. "Shit Y/N. Are you alright?"

You were hunched over, leaning on your knees, and coughing your guts up. Your held your hand up in an 'ok' sign. "Just swell, thanks." Daryl laughed at your sarcasm, walking towards you and patting your back.

"How about I set the fires from now on, eh?" He gathered together the sticks from earlier and placed them in a pile before slowly and carefully lighting the fire, blowing just enough for it to spread into a small fire. You watched him in awe. Daryl never failed to amaze you, even if it was supposed to be Halloween night in the apocalypse and you managed to scare yourself.

You linked your arm with Daryl's and rest your head on his shoulder as you both watched the flames of the fire dance together. "Y'know, Halloween was my favourite time of year before all the crap happened. The candy, the costumes, the laughter. It was all just so magical to me."

Daryl smiled and pulled a small wrapped candy out of his pocket and handed it to you, placing a small kiss to the top of your head. "I found this whilst gatherin' the sticks. Knew you'd love it." You smiled from ear to ear and popped the candy into your mouth, groaning as the flavours danced over your tastebuds.

"Best Halloween Ever."
