You live by the sword and you die by the sword
A line that is true as a man of his word
Live by the gun die by the gun
The battle may be over but the war is far from won
Boys grow up to be men and some grow to be warriors
Ones who don't are left without glory to be heard
Scars build character that is what they say
But when you look in the mirror you just want to look away
God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers
Fighting the good fight attaining glory as the beholder
Eternal glory for a life of pure hell
No wonder why lucifer fell
I'm far from the devil but I ain't no saint
Always one step behind without any gain
Some fight on battlefields to save another's soul
Others fight with a pen and paper toward grandiose goal
It doesn't matter they still have one thing in common
They fight with themselves hoping their sins will be forgotten
Those who survive fight that fight
Doesn't matter if it's day doesn't matter if it's night
Things of the past that haunt our souls
Kneeling as they pray part of a fold
Judge only yourself and not unto others
At the end of the day we are all still brothers
We are far from perfect creations
But god knew that when the fruit was taken
Punished for the crimes of our ancestors long ago
Forced out of Eden with no eternal life for our souls
It was on that day that time first began
Only after that did man kill man
We fight to be on top we fight out of fright
Sometimes we don't know if why we're fighting is right
History has shown that over the years
With dictators calling for the raising of spears
A call to arms for an alleged great cause
As their citizens are forced to applaud
Take mercy on us lord we aren't all bad
Some of us still love you even if life is sad
Not all who wander are always lost
We can think for ourselves, having morals as a cost
For morals and chivalry have not gone away
It's just few and far between, not seen much in this day
They've been forgotten like a thing of the past
But such things can be relearned like sitting in a class
Those who never lost it are one of a rare breed
Under appreciated and take advantage of without heed
It is a process almost if you can see
A warrior can stay a warrior or take up the villains creed
That is why it's not wise to test an old wolf
Beware of an old man in a young mans profession who's gruff
He didn't get to that age by being a sheep
It took some courage between those large leaps
He may have tattoos, healing wounds and scars
But he'll have some good stories to tell at a bar
Scars can be seen, or they can be invisible
Created by things both mental and physical
So when you see a man looking very gruff
He was probably once a warrior in a world without love
