Shouyou's birthday came with a whirlwind of unfortunate surprises.
1. The flight.
2. The taxi.
3. The storm.
The first surprise was his flight from Brazil to Japan getting canceled.
He had already been packed when he received the call that his pilot contracted covid and he would have to get his flight ticket transferred to a different flight. Said flight, though, was in five days, lessening his stay in Japan to a total of nine days instead of the initial fourteen days.
The second surprise was when Shouyou's taxi got lost.
Due to the flight change, he had to get a taxi to pick him up from the airport instead of his boyfriends coming to get him. They had work to do, as they were hard-working Japanese citizens. Shouyou had no problem ordering a taxi for himself, he was a good conversationalist even when he was suffering from what was almost a day and a half worth of jet lag.
While talking to Shouyou, the taxi driver- Kazuko- revealed that he's a Japanese native who grew up in South Korea. He has been in Japan for ten years now with his wife and three children. He's a sweet man, Shouyou concluded in his mind.
Their house was in a more remote area of Japan, but it wasn't so far out in the middle of nowhere that Kazuko couldn't find it. Apparently, that thought had been wrong though, because Kazuko did get lost and had to pull over to enter Shouyou's address into his GPS.
Shouyou had been a total of two hours late getting home, eventually arriving at one in the morning. His boyfriends were all sleepy from their day at work but greeted him warmly from their living room when he got home anyway.
The third surprise was a storm.
It came rushing in unexpectedly around three in the morning on Shouyou's third day in Japan. Although they knew the storm was coming, they didn't expect it to turn into what they felt like was a tornado.
Their weather newsman had said to expect a storm that night, but there was no mention of the severity of the storm as it was told to be a small thunderstorm; minuscule. The wind speeds must've been higher than that newsman predicted because none of them were very happy when they woke up in the middle of the night to their windows violently rattling. Tobio had been the one to check his phone first to check when the storm would pass yet found that his phone was at fifty percent charging and he wasn't connected to any Wi-Fi.
Tsukishima then got up to test if their lights would turn on. Lo and behold, after many unfruitful attempts to turn their bedroom lights on, they deducted that their power must be out.
Their power going out was something that rarely happens, and when it does it's usually out for only a few hours until the power company can turn it back on again. They were fine without power for a few hours- they could just sleep it off anyway- so they chose not to complain about it.
That was until morning came five hours later, at crisply eight in the morning, and their power still wasn't on yet. It was fine for the most part, they estimated their power should come on any minute now. To pass time, Kei and Tadashi accompanied Shouyou and Tobio on their morning run and sat in the gym lobby for their air conditioning as they waited for them to finish up with their workout in the afternoon.
In between waiting and enjoying the cool air, Kei and Tadashi walked around a few store outlets and got themselves some food to share with Tobio and Shouyou for dinner.
After their afternoon workout, when the four men arrived home, they were welcomed with moist, sweaty air. It smelt like boiling water. They could feel condensation begin to faintly coat their faces. Ironically, it was cooler outside than inside, so they let Tobio put Kumo into his cat carrier and took him outside with his water and food dish.
