•Ashley's POV•
~Tuesday night~

Ashley walked up the path leading to the front door of Scott's house. Before she had a chance to knock, it opened.
"Hey!" Scott said, flashing her a charming smile. He was wearing a blue shirt, which just so happened to be her favorite color.

"Hey!" she replied, smiling back.

He motioned for her to come inside, while saying, "Come on in."

She stepped inside and he shut the door.

"I was just about to order the pizza," he said. "What do you like on yours?"

"Anything with mushrooms."

He hesitated before saying, "Okay."

She could tell by his facial expression that he thought mushrooms were gross, but he didn't say anything.

While Scott was on the phone ordering the pizza, Ashley set her backpack down by the couch in the living room. She looked around and noticed that down the hall, all of the doors were closed except one, and the light was on inside. She could see a bed and dresser drawers, and judging by the motor vehicle posters on the walls, it was probably Scott's room. Ashley knew he probably left the door open and the light on on purpose, as an invitation, but she knew better than to be alone with him in his bedroom. Especially when there was no one else in the house.

A few minutes later, the pizza arrived.

When they finished eating, Scott asked where she would like to study.
"The living room sounds good. Or here in the kitchen," she said, making sure not to say his bedroom.

"Living room it is."

"Alrighty."

They sat on the couch and began to study. As she was helping him, Ashley could tell he was really trying hard to understand.

After they were done, she put her books back into her backpack and Scott walked her to the front door.
"Well, goodnight," he said. "And thank you." He flashed that charming smile again, and her heart fluttered.

"You're welcome. Goodnight."

The next afternoon when Ashley got home from school, she checked her phone and saw that she had a text from Scott. Her heart did that fluttery thing again. In the time she had spent with him the night before, she had developed a crush on him.

The text read: Hey, thanks again for last night. I feel like I finally understand history!

Oh, no problem. Glad I could help, Ashley replied.

I don't know what I'd have done without you. I hope I can remember everything for the quiz tomorrow.

Yeah, that'd be good.

Yup. So I was thinking maybe we could get together next Monday and study more.

Sure, I'd love to! What time?

Um I can give you a ride to my place after school. Or did you wanna study at your house?

On your motorcycle? Yes! Ashley had always loved motorcycles, but had never gotten the chance to ride on one.

Lol well it depends on my history grade if I still have my motorcycle by Monday. Otherwise we'd go in my truck.

True. Sounds good! 😊 she replied.

Sooo...your place or mine?

Yours. I mean, if that's okay...

That's fine. My parents will be home at 5, but we can just study in my room. Wouldn't want my annoying parents to interrupt anything.

True. lol, she replied. She was okay with studying in his room as long his parents were home. And the door stayed open.

A few seconds later, her phone dinged.

I just need to ask you one thing. Are you a Christian?

That took her by surprise. She had been trying to think of a way to ask him the same thing, and here he just asked her!

Yeah, why? she replied.

Well I believe in God and everything, but I'm definitely not religious. I still go to parties and things like that.

Oh, well, being a Christian isn't just about believing in God... And it's not necessarily a bad thing to go to parties unless you get wasted. So, you're not Saved?

No, I'm not.

Oh... Well, has anyone ever talked to you about it?

Yeah. I know about God and everything, I just never really had the need to get saved. No offense.

Scott, I think everyone has the need to get Saved.

Well I guess so, but I'm not from a religious family and I've never felt bad about the way I am. I was just never taught that it was a priority.

Well, it is a priority... If you were to drop dead right now, where do you think you'd go?

I don't know. I don't really know what's out there.

Don't you want to know?

Well yeah, I guess. But maybe another time. I'm going to bed. See you tomorrow.

Okay, ttyl.

Ashley set her phone down and took a deep breath. That didn't go as well as she had hoped. But it didn't go badly either. At least he was open to the idea.

She looked at the time on her phone. It was only 8:00. She couldn't imagine him going to bed this early.

He probably just got uncomfortable talking about God, she thought to herself. Which was fine. A lot of people got uncomfortable talking about Him. She just hoped he'd actually be willing to talk about it more some other time, like he'd said.
