A few days later...
Location - Tsukinomori Girls Academy, Courtyard
Mutsumi's POV
Ever since I met that boy outside of my house, I just couldn't stop thinking about him. The way he was playing his guitar... it sounded so soft and quiet, not to mention very painful.
I was thinking about it too much, so much so that I didn't hear Soyo trying to talk to me.
"Mutsumi-chan, are you listening?" She asked, looking rather annoyed.
"Oh, sorry, did you say something?" I asked.
"I was talking about how my new band is going to be putting on a performance soon." She said.
"Oh, I see."
Once she heard my halfhearted response, Soyo's face soften.
"Mutsumi-chan, is everything ok?" She asked.
"Oh, yeah, I guess so..."
"Does this have something to do with Saki-chan?" She asked.
"No..."
Now Soyo is even more curious than before.
"If it's not her, then what's going on?" She asked.
"Well, it's about my neighbor..."
"Neighbor, huh? Is it a boy or a girl?"
"A boy."
"Really? Are you interested in him?"
Hearing that turned my cheeks red.
"N-No, I'm not interested in him." I said. At least... I don't think I am.
"Oh, then what is it about him that made you keep an eye on him?" She asked.
"It was... his guitar."
"His guitar?"
I nodded
"The way he was playing it... it sounded so... sad and depressing."
"Is that so?"
"Yeah."
Soyo thought for a moment, then she gave me a smile.
"I bet he has a lot going on in his life, and I bet playing the guitar is the best way to cope with his sadness."
"Yeah, maybe you're right."
A few minutes later, the bell started ringing, signaling us to go to our afternoon classes. As Soyo and I headed back inside, I began to think about what to say to the boy the next time I see him.
_____________________________________________After school...
Location - Residential Area
Once school was done for the day, I began to make my way home alone. Usually Soyo would walk home with me, but ever since she formed that new band with Tomori and Taki, she's been doing that less. I guess it's fine, though.
As I got to my house, I noticed something. It was that boy again, and once again, he is playing guitar outside of his house. My cheeks turned red and my heart raced a bit upon seeing him.
His eyes met mine, and he smiled at me.
"Hello, we meet again, I see."
I nodded softly as I made my way closer to him.
"Yeah... seems so."
"I don't think I introduced myself last time, but my name is (Y/N) (L/N)." He said as he holds out his hand for me to shake it.
"Nice to meet you... my name is Wakaba Mutsumi."
I shook his hand and I felt... something unusual in my stomach.
"Mutsumi, huh? That's a nice name."
He... likes my name?
"T-Thank you."
I blushed as I looked down at his guitar again.
"Playing the guitar again?" I asked softly.
"Yeah, it's what I like to do after school."
"I see..."
I went silent for a moment before speaking again.
"Is it okay if I watch you play?" I asked.
"Yeah, of course." He smiled. "Come sit down and have a seat beside me."
I nodded and sat down next to him. He tuned his guitar for a while, and he began to play the first song that comes to mind.
_____________________________________________Because of you - Kelly Clarkson
I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself 'cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did
You fell so hard
I've learned the hard way, to never let it get that far
Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side, so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid
I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake a smile, a laugh
Every day of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with
Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side, so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid
I watched you die (I watched you die)
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young (and you're so young)
You should have known better (I was too young for you)
Than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain (you never saw me)
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
For the same damn thing
Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid
Because of you
Because of you
_____________________________________________After the song...
Oh wow... that was amazing. He really was good, and maybe, I could learn a thing or two from him.
"Well, how was that?"
I gave him a soft smile.
"It was amazing."
"Really? Well, thanks."
I nodded.
"May I ask how long have you been playing?"
"Well, I started playing... ever since I moved back into town."
Ever since he... came back into town?
