This idea was originally meant to be from Erica's point of view but pretty soon after I started writing it I got stuck, which I was pretty mad about because I really liked the idea, until I thought of this!(which is from bens pov btw) So without further ado I present to you this oneshot:
it's not everyday you get invited to erica hales house. it's also not everyday you show up and no one's there, normally when i come over it's a full-family event with even Cyrus making lame excuses to be there. but today? not a car in the driveway.
i walked up the front steps, knocked on the door, and waited. it felt like i had been waiting forever despite the fact it had only been around 30 seconds. something felt off and i had a sinking feeling something was wrong, i nudged the door and with a creak it slowly opened, music drifting from somewhere in the house. quickly scanning the hall to my right i saw not a living soul, same with the living room on my left. i gulped and slid my shoes off (catherine's rule) before tip toeing farther into the house, music becoming louder and louder. it seemed to be coming from the kitchen, grabbing a baseball bat i rounded the corner and saw something i never would have expected.
seeing erica tied up and held hostage in her own home would be surprising, she's too good for that (and so is her family), but what i saw would never have appeared in my wildest dreams. for there was my girlfriend, the great erica hale, covered head-to-toe in flour, frosting flicked in her hair and caked across her arms. it certainly was a sight to see her there in the kitchen, pans and baking ingredients everywhere. something was beeping and a speaker was blasting music, all while the stench of something burnt stung the air. i think that has to be the most off-guard i've ever seen erica, her normally icy eyes as wide as saucers. i couldn't help but laugh at the sight of her, i tried to find something not funny but the whole state of the kitchen made me laugh even harder, all of a sudden i felt something glob onto my face, frosting. i looked back at erica and for a split second there was silence before both of us dissolved into laughter. i grabbed a handful of flour and chucked it at her, as she made no attempt to dodge it we both just laughed even harder. it turned into a flour and frosting fight, each hit funnier than the last, until i saw something that made me freeze. there sitting on the counter was a cake, if you could even call it that, slathered with while icing and a sloppy "happy birthday ben" written on it in blue and red frosting. i couldn't help but grin, erica had gone through all this just to try and make me a birthday cake. she came up behind me and held out two forks, i grabbed one before we both grabbed a forkful and shoved it into our mouths. it wasn't the worst cake i've ever had, but it by far wasn't on the good side.. erica shook her head "that's really gross." she declared placing her fork on the flour-caked counter top.
"i've had worse," i shrugged, scraping off a chunk of icing with my fork and eating it.
she raised an eyebrow, " you sure about that?"
"positive." i said looking her dead in the eyes before we both collapsed into laughter yet again. and it was at that moment, that catherine hale walked around the corner.
"what on earth is going on?!" she exclaimed the shock on her face quickly turning into amusement. i'm sure she didn't expect to come home to find me in her house, never mind the fact that both me and her daughter were covered head to toe in frosting and four. Trixie walked in behind her, she managed to walk about four steps into the kitchen before looking up from her phone and realizing the scene in front of her.
"oh. my god." she said at a standstill in front of us not even looking away she raised her phone and snapped a picture of us before bolting, knowing full well erica would hunt her down. Catherine and i watched them race away before she turned to me:
"do i even wanna ask?" she said raising an eyebrow.
"well i know how this happened" i said motioning to my flour and frosting covered state. "but she did that all on her own," i said referencing the state of the kitchen and the cake.
"i can't imagine it was the best cake you've ever had," cathrine asked me.
"no," i admitted "but it is just about the best thing ever."
there was a group decision made that a ride back to the academy covered in cake ingredients wouldn't be the absolute best idea, so erica ended up spraying me with the hose in the backyard to get as much flour and frosting off me and my clothes as possible. Catherine then drove me back to the academy, and erica decided to come with and walk me to my dorm. we talked and walked as we made our way down the hallway leading to my dorm and when we were almost there erica told me, " this didn't turn out how i thought it would-" she started.
"i'll be sure to add it to the list of things you aren't good at," i teased, resulting me seemingly tripping over my own feet but i know erica well enough to know she tripped me at lightning speed.
"ANYWAYS," she continued " maybe if you helped me next time it wouldn't suck so bad." we turned toward my dorm and with a quick peck on the cheek she said, " see you on monday," then disappeared down the hall.
I shook my head walking into my room, chuckling to myself. i shoved my hands into my pockets and i touched something that definitely wasn't there when i left my dorm that morning. i pulled out a picture, printed out on Polaroid film, it was the picture trixie took of me and erica in the kitchen, covered in flour with half surprised half amused looks on our faces. i flipped the photo over to find erica's writing scrawled on the back, thought you might want this, happy birthday ben.
i smiled and fished out my phone from my other pocket, then typed out a message. it was only two words, and about nothing in particular but everything all at the same time.
Thank you
Kinda wasn't expecting to make that ending but whatever. I hope you enjoyed this oneshot and that it wasn't too ooc, and I'll see you next time !!
