Prologue

Prologue

Melanie's POV

In a day, we would become six years old and be able to turn into human form. We were so happy, we would finally get to go to school. But we were just six cubs in a freezing den waiting on our mother to return with dinner.

"Where's mom?" asked Aria, "I'm really hungry, I haven't eaten in like fourteen hours!"

"And we have?" sassed Amber.

"Guys be patient, Mom is trying her best to get us something to eat" assured Luka.

"And how long is that gonna take?" asked Aria.

"Probably a few more hours" said Vanessa.

We all groaned.

"Hours?! But I'm hungry now!" complained Aria.

"Hold your horses Aria, gosh!" shouted Luka.

Afterwards, Aria started crying. I'm sorry did I say crying? I meant wailing! Amber, Vanessa and Adria went under the wool sheets we all slept on to help lower the sound. Luka banged her head on the barn door desperately waiting for mother. I went to my 'secret corner' (a corner I hide things that may be useful for future purposes) and took out a half eaten turkey leg from the previous day and put it down in front of Aria. She looked up with her 'innocent face' and saw the meat.

"Is that for me?" she asked.

"Yes, now eat up and stop crying" I told her.

"OK thanks Mel!" she replied.

After she devoured the turkey leg, we talked for a bit and then we all fell asleep the same time without a single yawn or even being sleepy. It was really odd, maybe someone or something was trying to tell us something but I really don't know.

We were running and really fast too. I didn't know why we were running, but when I looked at the others, they all had a look on their faces between scared and angry. And that's when I realized we were humans and older - like teenagers!

I looked behind us and saw that there were two men and one woman running after us. They looked like they wanted to kill us, I wonder what we did to them.

"Mel! You need to grow a really fat tree so we can hide behind it and come up with a plan" said Vanessa between breaths.

"What?! Grow a tree?! We're probably in the middle of a crisis, we don't have time to grow a tree!" I replied.

"What are you talking about?! Just grow a tree!" exclaimed Amber.

"I can't!" I told them.

"For the love of JESUS!!!" exclaimed Aria.

Aria held my hand and put it in front of me.

"Tell yourself you wanna grow a tree!" ordered Aria.

"OK but it gon' work" I said.

"Just do it and shush!" shouted Aria.

"Grow a tree, grow a tree, grow a tree" I said while closing my eyes. When I was about to open my eyes, something hit me, it was the tree! It worked? It actually worked!! There I stood looking at the tree and my hands like an idiot, not realizing that the people we were running from were getting closer... Until Amber pulled me behind the tree and we started to plan.
