Enemies to lovers—————————————————————
Y/N's POV
I heave up a box of paperwork that I have just finished checking when Jade, my co-worker, gets back from her lunchbreak. She stops by my desk, while she dramatically gasps at my miserable self.
"So you weren't kidding?" Jade states the obvious—formatted as a question.
I nod very tiredly in response, too exhausted to even utter a simple word. I wasn't going to waste an entire eighty muscles on speech when I had loads of work to do.
"But, he hasn't done that to me or... or any of us here." Jade sympathizes with me by telling me how lucky she is. It doesn't help at all honestly, but knowing her, she didn't mean it in a bad way.
Although, it did make me wonder why he kept on picking on me specifically. Even the interns had an amazing experience here at Huang Group. So why me? And only me. I have been working here for a while now and I didn't understand all of this sudden change.
Our former Chairman retired six months ago and was replaced by his very young son—our current Chairman—Huang Renjun. Or Renjun Huang. Whichever way you deem fit.
Renjun is around my age according to some of our co-workers and it is pretty believable because he looks really young and handsome. The others say he is sweet and lighthearted—which is the persona that suits his soft face.
Although, he's been anything but nice to me.
It all started on a sunny Monday morning when I had to present my department's project in a meeting, which was the first time I was seeing young Mr. Huang for the first time. As soon as I was done presenting, I hadn't gotten a good reaction from him. It was just a simple 'okay' in the most monotonic way possible.
Every since then Renjun had an unreadable tone and expression when it came to me. Unreadable to the others atleast, because I could read it.
Hate. Dislike.
He also gave me difficult tasks which were sometimes entirely different from the department I specialized in. Seems like he was trying to get me to mess up one way or the other. On my own. Instead of complaining, I took it as my mission to prove him wrong. I would do anything. My stubborn ass would fight.
And now I regret it.
Today Mr. Huang gave me an impossible task. He made me edit the weekly work for the entire office. I would have to edit the writing and audit the accounts. And it should all be done by tomorrow.
For today, I was the bookkeeper, the accountant, the secretary and the project manager—my real job.
I decide to get out of my thoughts to carry on with my work because I didn't have all day. Heck, I didn't even have a day anymore because the evening had started to ascend.
I finish my second box, while I sigh heavily. I don't even realize it when people start to leave work because it is time to get off work now. Well, normally it would've been for me too but I have work now.
Jade is the last one to get up from her desk in my department. She halts midway when she reaches mine.
"Aren't you going home Y/N? You didn't even have lunch." She taps my shoulder lightly.
I assure her that I'm willing to pull an all nighter if I'm meant to and that I can survive too because I indulge in intermittent fasting from time to time. Jade leaves me there hesitantly, but only after I had to literally push her out, telling her that I'd be fine.
