In the sea of the Caribbean, where piracy was at its finest, one port was a place where rules were lacking. Tortuga. The sound of gunfire, people getting into fights drunkenly, and general freedom was in the air. And currently, there were 2 very unusual ships docked in the harbor. One, a Pitch-Black Galleon, with sails as dark as the night sky, and the other a mighty Brig, with a number of cannons unimaginable to an average Brig. The crew of both ships sat with each other, laughing and drinking together.
"Lad's, I propose a toast!" The captain of the Galleon yelled, holding up his tankard. The crew turned, each holding either a tankard or a bottle of alcohol. "Tonight, we celebrate another great score." The captain raised his tankard higher. "I owe it to you all, as we would never have gotten the riches without each of you. To the crew of the Black Pearl and the Devil's Soul!" The crew of the two ships aye'd in unison, clanking their tankards and bottles together. The captain smiled as he drank from his tankard.
"I must say, Captain, I applaud you for being able to get a score like that." The first mate said as he sat next to the captain.
"Ah, Hector. Well, it's a group effort, really." The captain said. Hector Barbossa, First Mate to the captain of the Black Pearl. "Take some credit for yourself mate."
"Thank you, Jack." Barbossa said, as he drank some rum himself.
"You too, Edward. Without your ship's firepower, we might not have beaten that Man O' War." Jack pointed at the captain of the Devil's soul, who sat himself away from everyone else, and held a glass of wine in his hand. He didn't speak, and only replied with a nod. Jack smiled, before reaching to his hip, only to find what he left there missing. Jack quickly stood up and looked around. And at this time, most of his crew stood up as well. Jack's eyes scoured the tavern before he saw a young boy. He was average in height, a bit thin for his assumed age, but full of confidence and walking away, twirling a compass around by its cord.
"Oi!" Jack yelled, before racing after the boy. The rest of the crew also ran after him, as they had found their coin pouches missing. They boy quickly ran as quickly as he could through the tavern and out into the streets of Tortuga. He smirked at his score of the drunk pirates that usually hung out in the tavern, and threw everything into his pockets, except for the compass. He took that because he found it interesting. He didn't expect one of them to notice him, but he was pretty evasive. He knew how to evade being caught, as long as he knew the area. And he was able to, as he hid in a pile of hay just outside of the tavern and listened to the sound of Jack and his crew clamor out. "Bugger." He said, before he ran off somewhere along with the rest of the crew. The boy snickered, before he felt someone grab him by the back of his shirt and pull him out of the hay.
"Very unwise, young one." Edward said, holding the boy up. He tried to fight off the man, but he slung him over his shoulder. Edward carried the boy to the dock where the Pearl and Devil Soul were anchored. He dropped him onto the deck of the Pearl, where the crew of said ship was already located. The boy scrambled to his feet.
"You have a talent, boy, I'll give you that. Now if you please," Jack held his hand out. "Me compass, and me crew's money." The boy looked around at the pirates, who were angrily growling at him. The boy sighed, before raising the items he stole up to Jack. Jack smiled and reached out to the compass, but did not expect for the boy to quickly grab and draw his cutlass, putting distance between himself and the crew while holding the sword up at Jack.
"I don't return what I steal. That's why it's called stealing." The boy quipped. Edward reached for his own blade, but Jack held up his hand.
"You have guts lad. What's your name?" Jack inquired. The boy raised an eyebrow.
