Who would want to hurt Deke?
That was the question that kept Daisy Ann pacing the floor between her kitchen and den.
Her cell rang.
She jumped. Maybe it was news about Deke. They said he was out of surgery, but it would be touch and go for awhile.
"Hello," she said, wondering was calling at that time of night.
"Hello, Goldilocks. Is the porridge too cold? Too warm? Just right? Guess what! Guess what! Papa Bear's sound asleep. And he'll never wake up. His bed is juuust right! You're next! You're next! Ha ha ha ha!"
Daisy Ann's hand went limp. She dropped the phone. She heard the 'crack' as the screen bounced off a metal table leg.
She didn't care.
All she could think about was that whispery voice that made her heart race a thousand miles a minute.
Whoever it was, he was a demon.
She ran about the house double checking the locks on the doors and windows. She'd never been so afraid in own home before. But now, every creak and settling noise made her want to leap out of her skin.
She was just about to dial 911 when it rang again. She looked at the screen. Even with the cracks, it was plain to see who this caller was.
"Iggi!"
"What! What is it!"
Iggi heard the terror in her sister's voice.
"What is it, Daisy Ann!"
"Get over here fast! I think I've just got a call from whoever tried to kill Deke!
Get over here, Iggi!
Get over here fast!
Merciful Jesus!
He's coming after me next!"
