Chapter 3- And then the world shattered

A piercing alarm breaks the delicate morning

Mizuki groans and quickly shuts it off. Then she remembers what day it is and quickly jumps out of bed. She walks with a bounce in her step. She's actually excited for the festival this year. Maybe it has something to do with Ena...
Mizuki brushes her teeth and her hair and then washes her face. She grabs a blue hair ribbon and ties her hair up in a ponytail. Mizuki walks over to her desk and pulls on her school uniform. A pink button-down, (It was originally white but she accidentally dyed it pink and didn't bother to get a new one) a plaid blue skirt, a beige cardigan with pink ribbing, a pink bow tie, and thick black stockings since it's been cold. It's early November. Crunchy leaves cover the ground. The trees are emptying and starting over. It's a beautiful season. Mizuki sits at her desk and puts on her makeup. When she's done, she stares at herself in the mirror for a bit and smiles. She grabs her shoes and makes her way to the front. She tells her parents bye, puts on her shoes at the door, and makes her way over to Ena

*BANG BANG BANG*
Ena jumps out of bed.
"Wake up!"
Akito....
Ena gets up and throws open her door. She isn't pleased. "You asshole!"
"We gotta leave soon and you were still asleep" He shrugs
"Doesn't mean you have to give me a heart attack!" He just shrugs and walks away. "Dickhead!" She yells after him.
"Just get ready"
She huffs and shuts her door, but she listens to him and starts getting ready

One, two, three..
..knocks on the door of the Shinonome's. Akito opens the door. Mizuki smiles and puts her hands on her hips. "Sup lil'bro!"

He stands unamused, "You are never going to give that up are you?"
"Nope!" Mizuki beams

Akito sighs and then says, "Ena is upstairs getting ready. I don't know if she's done yet. Her ass didn't wanna wake up"

Mizuki gives a small laugh at that. Typical Ena. She steps all the way into the house and Akito shuts the door. He then cups his hands around his mouth and yells, "ENA! YOUR FRIEND IS HERE!"

"HOLD ON I'M ALMOST DONE" Ena yells back

"HURRY UP" Akito yells again.

"I SAID HOLD ON!!"

He rolls his eyes. Mizuki laughs. Ena finally makes her way downstairs. Mizuki smiles and waves.
"Ena! Apologies for having to disturb your slumber. Hope the queen will be ok" Mizuki smirks. Ena just rolls her eyes.

"Oh why did I let you come?" Ena says with a roll of her eyes

"Cause' I'm awsome!" Mizuki grins.

Ena rolls her eyes again and puts on her shoes. "Let's go," they walk out the door, but Akito doesn't follow.

"Isn't lil bro coming?" Mizuki asks with a cock of their head

"Nah, he's gonna go with Toya"

"Ohhhh," Mizuki grins, "So then it's just us hehe" 

"Oh goody" Ena says flatly with an eye roll. Mizuki laughs.

They approach the school gates. Leaves crunch beneath their feet. The entrance is adorned with a large banner and brightly colored streamers. Different booths fill the grounds. Mizuki glances around. Ena turns to Mizuki
"Hm.. So what do you wanna head to first?"

Mizuki startles and turn to Ena. "Huh? Oh uh.. I didn't think that far"

Ena furrows her brows "You brought us all the way here and didn't even think of what we would do!?"

Mizuki laughs awkwardly "Umm... yeah"

Ena sighs and rolls her eyes, "let's go look at the food stalls then" She grabs Mizuki's hand and pulls them forward. Mizuki's face flushes and they only manage to sputter a "a- I- um- ok!'"

Ena gestures to a stall selling takoyaki and Mizuki. She pulls them over and they but some for each of them. Ena takes a bite and her eyes light up. She lets out a delighted "Mhmm!"

Mizuki takes a bite themself and is surprised to find it's really good. "Wow not bad for something made by a bunch of highschoolers," Mizuki says with a smirk. Ena nods in agreement; her mouth too filled to speak.

They'd continued to walk around the festival, trying different foods and drinks. Both had opted out of doing activities with their class; with Ena not knowing her classmates well since she did night classes, and Mizuki not showing up enough to know anyone. So that left them her now, sat in a stairwell, both much too full to walk around much more. The sounds of chatter and laughter spilled into the stairwell. They didn't have to say it out loud, they felt it- the loneliness. Isolated from their classmates, knowing that even if they'd wanted to participate, they would be outliars. Their moment of fun was over, and reality came back crashing over; the reason why they always skipped school festivals. After so long of being hiding away, it's hard to come back out. You look around and find everyone has moved on without you, there's no room for you anymore. So it's easier to just stay hidden.
But at least they were lonely together- that was something.

The mood was shattered when two girls walked into the stairwell. Giggles bubbles up from their mouths, but faded when they saw Ena and Mizuki. They're faces shifted to apologetic smiles. One girl muttered a "Sorry", and the girls both creeped their way past them. Mizuki heard their voices whisper to one another,

 "What are they doing? Loners. Do they even go to our school?"

"Well I dunno about the other one but that pink-haired one is in my class. Never shows up though. Probably only once of twice a month..!"

"What? Why even boter going at all? Geez"

"Well.. I heard it's because they're actually a b-"

Mizuki bolts up and grabs Ena's hand before the girl can finish speaking. "We should go walk around more! It's getting boring here!" Mizuki quickly drags Ena away before she can object. The girls words linger in Mizuki's head. Those girls were first years.. even they knew. 
I'll never escape it.. they think.. 

no mattter how much I run, it will keep chasing me..

Mizuki tries to surpress the pit in their stomach..
