Chapter 12
Marlene's POV
It's already my fifth year at Hogwarts. Time has flown by quickly. The start of the year was an interesting one. Xenophilius officially asked Pandora out on the train ride to school but she surprised everyone when she turned him down and pulled Barty in for a kiss. The student population exploded with gossip even before we arrived on the grounds. Reggie and I theorized that it happened over the summer since we didn't receive much news from either of them. Sirius officially moved out of the Black household so Reggie has been put under stricter orders and more watchful eyes. That made me more nervous for him since he may be forced to join Voldermort's cause by the Blacks. He promised me he wouldn't join and assured me whenever he senses my worries. I know he won't break his promises but I'm still worried. My fear has now become determination and motivation for me to begin my plan.
"Why are we here? We never go to the seventh floor."
I led my friends to the correct spot before I looked at them, "Do you trust me?"
"With my life." Dora smiled her special smile for me.
In true Barty fashion, he raises an eyebrow and says, "Duh, are you stupid or something?"
And Reggie, being him, simply shrugged without a word.
I sighed with amusement before I thought hard about a place where I can store and find many artifacts. I walked back and forth in front of the wall three times and a grand door appeared in front of me.
I take a deep breath in and out before I open it, revealing piles and piles of different artifacts and trinkets. "We're looking for a crown looking jewelry. It's the diadem of Ravenclaw. If you find it, don't touch it and don't wear it. It's cursed. Just call out for everyone." I commanded in all seriousness. They look at one another and nodded as we all started to look. After about 20 minutes, Dora shouts out, "I think I found it!"
We all head towards her voice and see it piled on top of a mountain of magical artifacts. I levitate it down towards us using my wand and take out a wooden box from my bag. When it was in the box, I quickly closed it and placed a few wards around it to secure it in place. The heavy air that surrounded us from the dark magic vanished quickly.
"That feeling, that was disgusting – nauseating." Barty looked slightly blue, "What is that? Why do you even want that?"
I looked at them and calmed my nerves before I answered, "Have any of you ever heard of a horcrux before?"
Barty and Dora look at each other confused while Reggie's features darkened. "Whose horcrux is that?" He demanded.
"Voldermort's." Reggie looks absolutely disgusted at this point.
"What are you two talking about?"
"A horcrux is dark magic created by the most heinous crime one can commit – murder. When one murders another, in that moment, the murderer can cast a spell to split their soul into a living or nonliving object. The diadem is a horcrux for Voldermort – the Dark Lord we've been hearing about lately in the daily prophet and through the great vines that is pureblood gossip." I explained.
"I can't believe he made one." Reggie's darkened expression hasn't lifted since the start of this conversation.
"Yes, one... of many."
"Many?!" Barty exclaimed.
"He has made around 5."
"How do you know this?" Reggie searches my face for an answer.
"I asked before and I'll ask again, do you trust me?"
The three looked at each other this time and all nodded together.
"Definitely."
"Again, duh."
"Always."
"I originally am not from this world. The world I came from, I found all of this information. I know how to defeat HIM. I want to save people here. I want to protect everyone: my parents, you all. Look, I thought I could do this alone when I first came here. But the truth is, I can't. I need help. If you trust me, please help me. I won't force you though. If you choose, I can obliviate you all of this conversation. Nothing will change."
The silence erupted in the large room, deafening me as I waited for their response.
"So what's the plan?" Reggie is the first to speak.
"Yeah, what should we do?" Barty nodded affirming his involvement.
"You know I'll always be here for you, Lena." Dora smiles widely.
I tear up as I look at my best mates. We can do this, I know we can.
