Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi's hands met, and suddenly, there was a flash on white light in Cheng Xiaoshi's eyes as he was transported into the photo. This was the only photo he had, so he had to be careful not to mess things up. No big deal. This was just a simple side request, right? To take a break from the whole mess of Liu Tianxian.
Basically, the new and smaller mission was from a woman by the name of Xia Ling who took a photograph on May 12th of 2008 of her and her mother, and she had wanted Cheng Xiaoshi to save her mother who'd died of an unknown cause that day. No big deal. Lu Guang said that the mother's death wasn't a node, and could be fixed.
Cheng Xiaoshi's mind was given to the body of a small girl, and he looked around, analyzing and showing Lu Guang his surroundings inside his thoughts. "Man, I need a script! What should I say?"
Lu Guang responded through Cheng Xiaoshi's thoughts, "just turn off the camera and give it back to the mother. Follow her around and try to keep her safe in order to stop her from dying." "How am I supposed to stop a death where I don't even know what happens?!"
The two bickered inside of Cheng Xiaoshi's mind, but Cheng Xiaoshi managed to keep a calm appearance while he made Xia Ling's body turn off the camera. He stuck close to the mother, almost glued to her legs as he walked alongside her.
Cheng Xiaoshi's yellow eyes while he possessed the bodies in photos were a bit unsettling, and he was quite lucky that he was the only one that could see it besides Lu Guang.
The mother sighed, and picked up Xia Ling. "Y'know, sweetie, I think I'll take you to the park today.. You've been asking to go a lot lately! I have some time today, if you'd still like to go."
"Lu Guang, where is the park she's talking about? Anything important written about it?"
"Nothing important. You're safe right now. All it says is to just let it happen."
"Thanks."
Cheng Xiaoshi, or rather- Xia Ling clung to her mother and nodded. Her eyes seemed excited. "I wanna go, I wanna go!" The mother chuckled and nodded. She seemed excited to treat her small child as well. "Then, let's!"
The mother tucked a strand of hair behind Xia Ling's ear, and smiled broadly. Cheng Xiaoshi practically screeched of happiness in his mind. "What a nice person! I'm just gonna enjoy this for a while-!" Lu Guang interrupted him. "Remember your job. Dumbass." "You're a dumbass! And I'll go back to the job! Ugh."
Cheng Xiaoshi chuckled a little bit, forgetting whose body he was possessing. The mother was a bit confused as to why her daughter was laughing randomly, but brushed it off as the wonders of being a child.
Xia Ling's mother put down Xia Ling, and helped the small girl put her shoes on. She held Xia Ling's hand, and took her to the park with a small smile.
"So when's the death going to happen?" "From what I got on the notes, in about an hour. Stick with her to try and fix it." "You got it, boss." "Don't call me boss. I might actually feel sick. Qiao Ling is the one who likes that." "You're terrible. So what, do I just play?" "Pretty much."
Xia Ling ran up to the park, just like in the script Lu Guang gave Cheng Xiaoshi. He acted the way he was told to, until about 45 minutes later. They were both a bit on edge, carefully watching Xia Ling's mother.
The Earth felt like it was trembling slightly, and Cheng Xiaoshi seemed to remember something. Right. There was a famous earthquake this year and day, that always haunted him.
Suddenly, large piece of rubble from a building collapsed nearby, scaring Xia Ling and Cheng Xiaoshi. She looked over to where the rubble fell, and Cheng Xiaoshi noticed that the mother was under the rubble. Her legs had gotten caught under it. There was blood, bodies everywhere. The stench was wretched.
