Mattheo POV

Courtney had a way of throwing my father into a tizzy, in the 24 hours that she's been here, my father has loooked like he was gonna burn down the house multiple times.  I'm not gonna sit here and say that I'm not happy my fathers back but at the same time I felt life was easier when it was just the Malfoys and I. Last night my father had Courtney turn my father back to his original form from before being blown apart. Now its a bit easier being around him, but he continues to make me feel like I'm walking on egg shells. Before we even left for the platform all he would talk about is getting Courtney to like either me or Draco and driving home the fact, that by the time the school year was over one of us will be engaged to Courtney.  More than anything, I felt bad for Courtney. Her father offered her up to my father, the Dark Lord, and she clearly had no clue what has surrounded her life. As long as I could avoid her, I wouldn't get dragged into the bullshit...

"Mattheo did you hear me? I said do you know anything about the new girl," Theo Nott questioned, drawing me out of my mind and clearly unaware that no one wanted to talk about it.

We were almost at the school now and Nott would not stop talking about Courtney, unaware that I didn't want to talk about her. The only plus side to this was, without a doubt Courtney was gonna be sorted into on of the other houses and Nott would never talk about her again. And then maybe my father would drop the whole marriage thing. She seems like a Ravenclaw.

Everyone we are pulling into the Hogwarts station. Please clean up your booth and make sure you have all your belongings.  First and second years  please wait at the station for Professor Hagrid, third and fourth year please make your way to the boats. All other students please make your way to the carriages.
The speaker of the tram car announced the arrival to Hogwarts and all the first years were buzzing with excitement.

As I got up to gather my items, I saw Courtney a few cars back nervously getting off the the train and talking to Snape, who happened to be on the track waiting for her.  They talked for a few minutes and then started walking off together.  I didn't think anymore into it and made my way to the carriages. Once we got to the front doors, the smell of the banquet was so strong, I'm sure they smelt it in the dark forest.

After the first years got sorted, Dumbledore stood up again and began to speak.

"Although not common we have a new faith year joining us from Ilvermony in America. Courtney Burke! Please be seated to get sorted into your new house."

"Slytherin," the sorting hat yelled after three minutes of sitting on her head, drawing a groan from me and a gasp from Nott.

I shared a glance with Draco and startled eating. This was not gonna end well.

Courtney's POV

"So what was it like in America? Are you excited to be here? Do you have any siblings? Do you know your classes yet?" This kid Theodore rambled, spitting out questions as if he was about to forget how words work.

"Hey, I'm Pansy, and this is Blaise," a girl with jet black hair said reaching across the table to shake my hand, "How are you doing  with all the the changes?"

"I'm just trying to keep up with tedious momentum of life and not fall under," I replied uninterested, hoping I could show I wanted to be left alone without having to be rude.

"Pansy, let her be, I'm sure she's tired and doesn't want to be be asked a billion questions?" A girl with dark brown hair said coming up to the us at the table. "I'm Astoria Greengrass, hi Draco, Mattheo."

Having had enough socialization for the week, I grabbed my robes and left the Great Hall and started making my way through the halls. I was naively unaware of the moving stairs before I was walking down one flight and it started moving to the other side, taking me completely off course.  I guess someone must've heard me shriek, because next thing I know, professed Snape is saying a spell to get the stairway where it needs to be and telling me to follow him.

"I could've figured it out by myself....Sir" I said, annoyed that this is how my first day is going.

I followed him down tot he basement, and to the Slytherin common room. I was told the password was pureblood and with that he took me inside to my show me around.

"You'll be rooming alone... obviously," he droned in his monotone voice, and then walked away leveling me in front of a bedroom door alone.

I figured since I was the only one in the dorms right now, it would be the perfect time to shower so I unpacked my bags, grabbed all my shower items, and made my way to the bathroom. After turning on the water I got into the shower and allowed the water to wash away the last few days. I'm not sure how long I was in the shower but when I finally got out the entire bathroom was filled with steam. I got dressed in my pajamas and made my way back to my dorm room.

"I can't believe she gets a room to herself. I mean I was here the last four years and she gets a solo room!!" Astoria snipped to a younger girl who looked a lot like her. They were congregating by the the stairwell and hadn't noticed that I was on my way up. When they did notice me they walked away quickly, laughing to themselves.

After the week I had the only thing I looked forward to now was going to sleep. After finishing my nighttime routine, I pulled back the cover and laid in bed, the Dark Lords words playing in my head "By the end of this year you will either be engaged or dead" although I didn't like either choice I knew I needed to be smart about this whole situation. Since tomorrow is Saturday, I could sleep in and took this opportunity to fall into a deep sleep.
