Billie's POV
Gaining Kate's trust wasn't going to be easy.
While we were at the mall she stuck to Tré like she was crazy-glued to him. She didn't like me very much.
When we walked past Toys R Us, both Tré and Kate went crazy and wanted to go in. Because I'm a complete softie, we ended up going in.
Tré and Kate ran right to the TMNT section to play with action figures. Mike and I sat and watched. An employee walked by Tré. "isn't it adorable to see a father and daughter like that?" she asked. I nodded and smiled. I looked at Mike. He looked jealous of Tré. "yeah, it is." I said with a smile. The employee went back to work. "let's go guys." I stated. Kate started to sob. "but I wanna toy!" she whined. Tré picked her up and both the ninja turtles. "let's buy 'em!" he announced. Kate stopped crying. "yayyyy!!" she cheered. Mike was shooting daggers into Tré with his gaze.
"I defend her from Sad Clown and this is what I get?! Fuck logic!" he grumbled as he walked beside me, watching Tré pay for Donatello and Michael Angelo.
"what? Not spending money? I'd be happy. You defend her from a none existent, depressed clown and Tré buys her shit. It's a win for you!" I explained. Mike shrugged. "guess you're right." he muttered, obviously still bothered.
We went to a record shop to buy her some t-shirts.
"how about Sum 41?" Mike asked, holding up a black t-shirt. She nodded. "okay! That was the first one she has accepted! 6 more to go!" Mike cheered. We had showed her so many shirts from amazing bands, it wasn't even funny. Tré held up another. "how about Green Day?!" he asked sounding enthused. She smiled. "GREEN DAY, GREEN DAY, GREEN DAY!!!!" she screeched. I smiled even though she probably didn't listen to us. "I like Longview!" she said. I looked at her surprised. "wow!" I mumbled, but still impressed. She started singing it. Curses and everything. Tré picked up all the Green Day shirts there in her size and even some in his. God, he's self-centred!
I held up a Nirvana shirt. "like this one?" I asked. She jumped up and down. "yes!!! I love Nirvana!" she squealed. I had to wonder who was introducing her to all these bands. I thought maybe it was Mike, but he only spent a day with her and that was not enough time to teach her all the lyrics to Longview and smells like teen spirit.
Tré felt lucky after his last success on the Green Day t-shirt and held up AD/DC. "like these guys? Like AD/DC?" he asked. Kate nodded. I didn't believe it. "yeah right! Name one of their tunes that isn't highway to hell!" I challenged. She grinned "hell's bells! And have a drink on me!" she shouted. I smiled. "alright, squirt." I said with a laugh.
We bought her a new cassette, a cd player and a cd for being good. She was very grateful. She didn't seem too picky about pants and underwear so we just went to the boy's section of Zellers and bought her a few pairs of cargo pants that fit and a pack of ninja turtles boxers. She didn't care that they were boy's, she just liked the ninja turtles.
Tré of course took her to the toys to play and choose one or two for being good. "choose one. Or maybe two... Hmmm.... Why not three or four!" he said to her. The corners of her mouth seemed to go the her ears. She went to the ninja turtles and came back with Raphael, Leonardo and Master Splinter. Tré threw in some candy for him and her to share.
Mike's POV
We walked past a music store. We went in of course.
Kate stood gazing up at a cream Geddy Lee jazz bass. "it's so pretty!" she commented. I took it down and plugged it in. I started to play Stuart and The Ave. A group of three dyed-haired teenagers gathered around me. "you're Mike Dirnt! From Green Day!!" one them with blue hair squealed. I nodded and smiled. "oh my god, dude! Uh... If I had a pen I'd ask for, y'know, your autograph of something but I don't." the blue-haired one stuttered. Kate rummaged around in her back pack and pulled out her pencil box. "here you go." she said, handing him the box. He smiled. "is this you daughter?" another who was green-haired asked. "no, I'm just baby-sitting." I improvised. They all three smiled. "dude, you and the rest of your band have inspired us so much! I wouldn't have even thought of drums if I didn't hear Tré on Nimrod!" a purple-haired one said. The rest of them nodded in agreement. "got a band?" I asked. They smiled and nodded frantically. "hell yeah! We're called Bluenosers!" the green haired one said. I high-fived them all. "anyway, could you sign my album?" the blue-haired one asked. "sure kid! Oh yeah, you guys have names?" I questioned. They looked at each other. "oh, shit, yeah! I'm Philip." the blue-haired on announced. "I'm Johnny." the green-haired one said. "and I'm well... I'm Mike!" the purple-haired one said proudly. I smirked. "nice name Mike! I know a real cool guy with that name." they all laughed. I signed their albums and the went to go find Billie and Tré.
"want me to buy you a guitar?" I offered. She lit up like Christmas. "uh-huh!! Can I pick it?!" she asked. I ruffled her hair. "of course you can sweetie!"
She stopped at my signature bass. "it's so beautiful! It's got a star on it!" she gushed. My heart once again melted. "wanna play it, see how it sounds?" I asked while taking it down. I knew she was going to say yes.
She sat down with and I plugged it in. She was dwarfed by it, but she played anyway. She played some bass lines from everyone. Me, Paul McCartney, Mark Hoppus, even Gene Simmons! I was amazed at her talent.
Soon we had to leave the mall because Tré and Kate were going crazy. We called a cab and went back to the busses.
