"You.....guess? He called you babycakes! That means SOMEthing." Zach retorted.
I sighed. "Can we not talk about this right now?"
"Why not?" he challenged.
"Because. There's nothing to discuss." I answered somewhat calmly.
"Sure there is. You like him, don't you? We know he likes you. It's written all over his face when you talk to him. You shouldn't even..."
"What difference does it make?! You don't know anything about me or who I like! It's not your place to dictate who I do or do not talk to!" I snapped.
"Whatever!" he snapped back.
"EXACTLY!" I shouted.
He went silent and sulked.
Cameron watched us go back and forth with wide eyes.
"Zach...you should just tell her." Cameron spoke quietly.
"Tell me what?" I demanded.
I waited and waited. No one said anything.
I sighed. "Tell. Me. What?" I asked in an even tone.
"Nothing. It doesn't matter." Zach finally answered.
"I think it does. Just say it. Please." I looked at him.
"I..." he started.
"You.....?"
"I just...I'm worried about you. I don't trust him. He's not good for you." He answered quickly.
Cameron scoffed. "Dude."
I looked from Cameron to Zach.
"You wouldn't get that defensive over something like not trusting him with me. It's something else. Can't you just tell me?"
He sighed and looked down.
Was I ever gonna get the answer out of this boy?
