This is a royal au for sander sides, and I know Remy and Picani are not sides but they are included in this for the sake of the story. Also for vocabulary's sake I'll put this here: a valet de chambre is the male equivalent to a handmaiden, they serve someone in the royal family usually. This story will follow different story lines all at once so the chapter's will be (normally) in third person, occasionally having dialogue in first person and following one or two characters. Some chapters will have you meet all characters but most will be focused one on or two at a time. This first chapter is longer just to introduce our main characters Roman and Remus. But the story does follow all eight of them those of which have varying roles in our story so they are as follows:
Roman: Prince
Patton: valet de chambre for Roman
Virgil: viscount
Logan: commoner
Janus: valet de chambre for Remus
Remus: Prince
Remy: commoner
Picani: Lord
The castle was ablaze with energy. There was to be a masquerade ball tonight to celebrate the princes finally coming of age. They were the crown jewels of Kinunach, quite literally, as well as everyone in the kingdom loved and cherished them. The kingdom was a very traditional one and often closed off to other kingdoms. So rumors spiraled in and out of the kingdom about the princes. Tales of their beauty were known throughout all the kingdoms, the twin princes were supposedly very handsome. But no one could tell for sure because no one outside Kinunach had seen them though so no one knew how much was true. Their father kept them from the outside world so that no one would be able to see them until they turned of age to marry. It was a Kinunach tradition to do so, his father had done the same for him, and his father and his before and so on. Then there would be a ball when they came of age and the princes could choose from suitors attending and court them properly. It ensured that the princess the prince had chosen wasn't with him for beauty or for the family riches but with them because they genuinely cherished being around him. It was a tradition most kingdoms gave up long ago in exchange for arranged marriages at birth, just to ensure there would be a marriage. They often thought when it came to letting the royal children decide there was a possibility of where they could not want to marry at all and that the family line would die with their child.
Kinunach was and always has been a very traditional kingdom, they held onto the ways of the past when other kingdoms gave them up long ago. Yet they were the strongest of kingdoms at the time, thriving and flourishing when others had died out. But even the great valleys and hills that protected Kinunach could not protect it from the rumors that slipped through on the trading ships and caravans. Rumor had it that the prince inheriting the throne was kind and gentle. Kind didn't get you too far with other kingdoms as a ruler, it made you look weak and easy to invade and overthrow. But kind won the hearts of your subjects. And sometimes that was all it took to overpower another kingdom, was to have your people standing behind you and fighting with you.
The throne prince of Kinunach was known to be kind, generous, and sometimes simple minded. He would bring food down from the castle to feed as many of his subjects as he could in harsh winters, he only let the seamstresses in the castle buy from the weavers in town and let the people have the intricate woven fabrics from the kingdom's trades. This often angered the other kingdoms that Kinunach's peasants were wearing the fabric reserved for nobility. It was a sign of disrespect yet, the prince did not seem to care or notice the anger from the other kingdoms. It was also known that he would support the struggling farms until they could hold their own again, often using some of the gold from the castle vaults to do so. And he had a thing for children. Any respectable royal knew that children weren't a concern unless they were your own.
