"I feel so tired," [Y/n] grumbled.
"Isn't it obvious why?" Muzan said, thumbing the page in his hand.
"Why?"
"You haven't eaten in a week."
"Hmm? Oh yeah, that makes sense," [Y/n] answered, yawning.
"Stop being out of it, the last thing you ate was your cousin," Muzan replied sternly. He wasn't wrong, [Y/n] could feel hunger slowly gnawing inside him, his need for human flesh rising as he had expended quite the energy during their journey. Not to mention, the last thing he gulped down was the human food at the family gathering.
[Y/n] reluctantly got out of the comfortable futon and sat next to the dark-haired man who was currently reading one of the physicians' notes he had brought with him.
Before the sun rose, the two had arrived at a ryokan in the next town, staying in one of the more expensive rooms, courtesy of Muzan's money. Normally, it would take about a week to travel to the capital via several different towns. At their leisure though, it would likely just take them about four more days.
"Did you go out and eat without me before?" The [h/c] haired man groused.
"I'm not the type to wait around starving. We'll go and hunt when night falls so you don't starve."
[Y/n] pondered for a moment, his expression thoughtful. "Hunting, huh? That's what we're calling it now?"
Muzan blinked. "Yes, what else are we calling them?"
"It's not like they're our friends," Muzan continued, shrugging his shoulders. "Most of them are just insects, after all."
A smile spread across [Y/n]'s face as he leaned closer to the other demon, poking Muzan on the cheek.
"Were you always this full of inflated ego?" Muzan slapped the hand away, his expression thinned and he voiced out, "I'm serious. In the end, they're all just worthless pieces of flesh. Your cousins, for example, were insects."
A beat of silence.
"Ah, them." [Y/n] said dryly, "You're not wrong. People like them, those who inconvenience others just by existing, deserve to die. Worthless people that rot the world."
Muzan didn't answer, opting to see if night had fallen yet.
[Y/n] turned his head with him and looked on as the last light of the sun fell down the horizon, changing the orange sky into a beautiful dark blue. With the prospect of food implanted in his mind, [Y/n]'s hunger increased.
"It's time to go hunting."
There was a crowd of people in the area when the two of them left the ryokan. Colorful lanterns started illuminating the night sky, and the sound of drums and flutes filled the air. The two of them could feel the excitement in the air and they knew that their hunt was about to begin.
Countless people began to dance in the middle of the streets with a couple of merchants selling their wares on the side roads. Slowly but surely, the numerous amount of people overloaded [Y/n]'s sense of hunger. [Y/n] felt his saliva on the tip of his tongue, and he swallowed it back in.
"See anything you like?" Muzan's voice felt too close.
[Y/n] took his hand instead and answered, "Not here, it's too crowded."
Muzan said nothing but followed the [h/c] haired man. Their slow walk took them to a quieter part of town where the festival's hands could not reach them. The smell of alcohol and booze was strong on the streets.
